Comment:

Took his online class and definitely would take/choose an on-campus. Since it was online I unfortunately didn't have much contact with him, but he seemed caring and ready to help. Overall I have a feeling that he is an inspirational, passionate and knowledgeable professor. Lots of quizzes, one concert report, clear grading criteria.

Prof. Holt as a teacher is interested in seeing his students succeed. He teaches what is going to be on each test thoroughly, and will assist any student that might have a hard time grasping the material. Super cool guy as well. I would highly recommend his classes to anyone

This was my 2nd class with Prof. Holt (my 1st was music 1, not online). I liked him from music1, as he is super clear, no-nonsense type, and always ready to help. He respects those who put in effort. The online course was really interesting, and fairly easy to do well on. Tests are timed, so even with notes, you should get familiar with material.

I took this course online, so these comments apply for that course. Overall, I think the professor was very good. However, I would not take the course again; the course itself is setup horribly. You have to log-on almost everyday in order to take the quizzes which gets old quickly. The professor is very helpful though, and willing to work w/ you.

i took the online appreciation class (music 32) and it was a lot of work i wasnt expecting. Also, the CD costs like $100 and you cant sell it afterwards cuz you already used the register code...the professor was helpful but the course itself was just bad. i wouldnt reccomend it unless you really have to...it was a waste of money.

If you are not musically inclined do not take this class. I played an instrument in JR high and i understood the first couple of chapters. Concepts get hard, at the end we only had like 6 students and they were all musicians and singers. If you want to take this for IGETC that the history portion of it.

Difficult at times - asks for a ton of rewrites, but it's only when he sees the potential in his students. Very easy going when it comes to making up quizzes, homework, etc. Easy to communicate with. I had some personal issues through the semester, and he worked through them all with me. Very genuine person.

Class was pretty easy/fair. I was a little lazy so I got a B and not an A. Concert report is required-- plan for it early! Don't wait for him to announce it. Lots of reading and online quizzes, but they're simple. Gives you chances to redo assignments for higher grades.

I have played the piano for over 10 years, so I thought that this class would be piece of cake. I took his 8 week online class and it was alot of work. The written assignments took alot of time. All in all a hard earned A with 89.97%. Doesn't answer his e-mail during a online class.

Class is completely online. About 40 quizes 8 questions each. 5 assignments about page each requires analysis of music. Midterm and final 75 questions each. Bottom line, a lot of work, but not hard work, getting A is no problem as long as u do everything assigned. Must c a concert and analyze it.
