He is very knowledgeable and passionate about what he teaches. You can get an A in the class if you take really good notes on his lectures. I only used the book a few times and still got an A in the class. It is also very easy to reach him outside of class. He is very helpful during his office hours.

Swank was a great professor. He was caring and gave true feedback that was very useful and helpful. He is extremely knowledgable and very funny at times. His exams can be a little overwhelming but as long as you put some time and effort into mastering the notes and book readings, you'll do fine. Would recommend him!

Great teacher, you can tell he is really knowledgeable. He mostly covers everything from the book in lectures, so reading the textbook is not really necessary. Class can be boring and drag on, if you don't have an interest in political science. However as a political science major, I really enjoyed the class and liked Dr. Swank's teaching style.

There are only 3 tests and one paper for this class. If you keep up with the reading you will be fine on the tests and most likely receive an A or AB in the class. Bring a computer or tablet to class because his lectures are super long and drawn out and mimic what was said in the book.

He is very good professor. Sometimes lectures drag on and on, but he knows his stuff and he is available if you need help. There are only 4 Hourly Exams that have 4 essay questions and you must answer 3. Although, I did not manage to get an A, I still enjoyed the course and recommend him to prospective students.

He is slightly boring... however, he does have a very extensive knowledge about comparative politics. He does not make the content very clear and can be unclear of what he wants on the tests. Although, the tests are all essays and there are 4 with the final being the 4th exam.

Great teacher! Monotone lectures, mainly note based. Either read the book, or take great notes. No pop quizzes, just 4 exams and a paper. Overall, very knowledgeable guy, and great class!

Dr. Swank tends to speak with a monotone during his lectures, but the class is still very interesting and he's really smart (it helps if you have a personal interest in poly sci). The key to being successful in this course is taking really really good notes. The exams are all essay questions.

He is a very nice man, but he is so boring! His lectures are mono toned and the material is dry. He is extremely knowledgeable, but he tends to get so off track in lecture, putting the class very far behind. I took the class because I was told he was an easy grader, but he's not. He expects you to know EVERYTHING he talked about in class.
