He was nice to me the only time we were face to face, but don't get me wrong, the class is awful; I don't know how I passed. If you get a chapter behind then you're done, and the entire class consisted of going over homework. If you get the translation wrong he won't leave you alone, which can be pretty embarrassing. Hate the language requirement.

Dr. Williman is a senior scholar @ BU, renowned in the field of Medievalists. Of course he's not interested in people who only want a language req. and won't put the work in. To have a class with him is/was an honor. Happy retirement Dr. Williman!!

The guy knows his Latin no doubt about that. The thing is that he can't convey it. If you wanna learn how to speak the language, don't take it. If you wanna learn how to translate it, take it. If you like memorizing and learning from the book take this course. The class requires a lot of time and memorization. The class is like a permanet deja-vu.

Epitome of a research professor who makes secondary his primary mission of educating students. Boring, atrocious, and has the uncanny ability to put even the most enthusiastic latinist to sleep on a whim. No class layout, each session is reviewing the homework. Boring, rude, and a mistake. Unfortunately, you don't have a choice. Good luck....

OMG, this guy is an atrocity . He is out to get you if you are not a latin major and just need latin to get the gen. ed., he has no office hours, you cant ask questions, you are supposed to know every little thing about grammar and I have seen him literally make a person cry if she got something wrong. FREAKKKK.

if youre not ready to learn everything yourself, outside of class, then dont take this class. class is repetitive, everything out of textbook. a LOT of memorizing. but he definitely knows his latin.

This guy is very knowledgable but is a terrible teacher. He is completely out of his mind and is very condescending. I hated this class and will not recommend it to any intelligent person. P.S. he wore a cape to class one day. What the heck?

A commanding presence, demands respect. Became much kinder in class once my buddy approached him respectfully after class about his verbal treatment of students. Dedicated to his subject, his enthusiasm is contagious. Much outside work is required for mastery of the subject, and the grade to show for it. If you're easily discouraged it'll hurt.

If you are the picture of perfection in Latin... you'll love him because he'll love you. He can be very nice if you give an honest effort and are polite, but god forbid you ever slack off or get an answer wrong in class.

I get along with teachers and profs more than most but if you approach him in a polite, mature and sincere manner he wants to help you. Classics profs are known for being very attentive to students who actually care He's no exception. The class if very difficult but by the end of a year you'll be practically ready to read the real thing. Dig it

I had already taken Latin, and I knew the material, but I dropped out because I disliked the professor. After four years of college, he's still the professor I hate the most.

Not as approachable as other professors are; can be rather degrading of students when they make errors. Attendance counts for 30% of your grade. Paying attention and doing the exercises are CRUCIAL. If you can master dealing with those things, you should be fine.

I ended up tutoring my friend in this class, and they failed out. It can be VERY VERY tough if you don't keep up with the work. He's helpful if you catch him correctly, but he can be condescending. Take the later class so you don't get the 8:30, and stay up on the work or else you're screwed.

The lecture does not help, except going over the translation. Put at least 3 hrs each day to just do the homework. The textbook is not that great, but at least it does make sense. Attendance counts A LOT!

Very hard. But if you're willing to put in the time and effort yourself, you should be alright. Class time itself really didn't help much, except that attendence is a large part of the grade.

Grade based on midterm and final only. This guy is extremely conceited, and incessantly implies how stupid all of the students are. Gives practice exams which are nothing like the real thing. Only take this class if you are serious, and want to put in at least 2 hours of your own time per lecture

Ok I'm the one who called him a nice grandpa but I CHANGED MY MIND, he was really mean to me for no reason! He's very strict-you lose a point off your average for every absence with NO FREEBIES, and the grade is solely based on that plus the midterm and final, so if you don't do well you are SCREWED

Aww, this prof is sooo cute, he's like a little Grandpa, and he's really sweet and lenient if you ask him for things nicely. However...the class is EXTREMELY difficult, I suggest that if you're interested in learning Latin PASS/FAIL THE CLASS...I don't know what I was thinking in NOT doing that!!
