Metropolitan environment. tomey was boring as hell, doesn't take attendance, so i never went to class. he gives reviews for his exams. tests are exactly like reviews. literally went to class 5 times the entire year and got an A. great class if you want an A but dont want to put any effort in or learn anything

Painfully dry, irrelevant, and unstructured lectures. Readings do not relate to most of the St. Louis examples used in class. Before taking PPS 397 with Tomey, I was an Urban Affairs major; I will soon be leaving the program, as he is its head. Disappointing for what could and should be an interesting course.

Knows his stuff. He seemed to have a grade in mind as to what you were going to receive regardless of how much you put into the class. What you have ad mids is it. He was not able to stimulate class discussion, and was not available outside of class. You can learn a lot though. If you want to optimize your grade don't do the resarch paper.

What a mistake to take his class! Mind-numbingly awful, I dread the days I have to take his class.

Horrible professor! If you don't believe me go talk to him for 5 minutes. Mind-numbingly awful, some sort of speech impediment, can make the most interesting topic horrible. Obsessed with the city of St. Louis.

Bring a laptop to class if you can so you will have something to do; otherwise that 50 or 1hr15min. will feel like the biggest waste of your day. He gives exam reviews. his class is easy. just FYI - A: you will NOT learn a thing B: for your benefit don't take him early of a.m. cause u won't go C: for any class of his bring a laptop

Tomey does not know how to create lively discussion. He knows his material, but refers to the Post-Dispatch more than anything else. You will likely fall asleep if you are not excited by the topic.

it wasn't a bad class. 2 small papers, a group paper and midterm and final. he's a very fair grader... gives study guides for the tests. do your work and you'll get an A.

if you're actually interested in the subject, it's a great class. Mr. Tomey is extremely nice if you go talk to him and very helpful. For the Ed. and CSD majors who aren't interested but required to take it... he's nice, his tests aren't hard if you do the study guide, and he really tries to tie in stuff about public schools and school districts.

Don't take this class unless it is required. It was one of the most boring classes I have ever taken at SLU and he is not very helpful.

Terrible teacher. Usually I can't stay awake in his classes. Most UA majors have lots of unwanted experience with him. Unless you have to like us, don't waste your time
