So much reading. I'm lucky, because I'm only taking two classes this semester. He gets angry when people don't understand material, but doesn't explain it in a way TO understand. For instance, today, I have to read 15 pages + watch a video + a different chapter, all while studying for the midterm. In class Powerpoints don't match online readings.

There are a lot of bad comments on here, which surprised me, because Dr. Velez is an awesome lecturer. It's philosophy- it's not supposed to be easy. I liked that he works hard to create an environment where students can respectfully share conflicting ideas. He's also very funny and he made me realize I loved philosophy.

He is hands down the worst professor at Columbus state.. if you are not a philosophy major DO NOT TAKE HIS COURSE.. even if it is the only option wait until another semester to take a different professor. He does answer questions but you cant understand because he ONLY uses philosophical terms. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.

His readings were a little hard to understand, but if you just answer all of his questions and turn everything in on time he is a super easy grader, atleast in my opinion.

Velez's ethics course was a course based on his views of Ethics. It was very very hard - but if you put in the work it was possible to get a B. I would not recommend this course or professor.

Everything is overly complicated, too many things to read. Definitely not for students who have not taken an ethics or philosophy class before. Hard to understand or focus on his lectures. He is too smart so its hard to follow along with his thought process.

His lectures are worded in a way that is difficult if never having taken an ethics class. In comparison to other teachers teaching the same material he unloads massive amounts of material in academia literature which makes it difficult to understand.

Edgar means well, but his selections for readings make the class as painful as having bamboo shoots shoved under your nails. Unless you LOVE the subject, I would you advice you stay far away from this class. The readings are long and mostly rubbish, but you need to read them. He's not a bad guy, but his selected content and teaching are sub-par.

I ended up dropping this class it was so terrible. His notes were SO long, and they ramble. He is too smart to make sense. I would compare him to Sheldon on Big Bang Theory. There are long reading assignments. I would NOT recommend him to anyone.

I've never been so confused and lost. So far the required and suggested reading materials are a 4" stack of copies, front and back, and it's not over yet. Nothing is thoroughly explained , we speed through the powerpoints, the reading materials we never discuss. Dr Velez is a nice enough person, but if you don't need Philosophy class don't take it

Prof Velez was a very helpful and understanding professor. He helped me to register late for his class and was understanding when I was not able to complete an assignment. I would suggest taking his class.

DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. He abbreviates everything he talks about which makes everything SO confusing. He has tons of types of assignments that you have to do by scattered deadlines and includes other units' notes with previous units and is just SO extremely unorganized. I don't know how he got a degree. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!

I almost didn't take this class because of all the comments, but I am very glad I did. Mr. Velez is very nice and fair. Taking this class online, I emailed him many times. He always responded right away and was always very helpful. As long as you do the work, this class is easy.It isn't a free ride! Put the effort into the class and he will notice!

I was really excited to take this class but it sucked. Half way through i seriously considered dropping it. The guy pushes his own agenda instead of teaching real philosophical material. He doesn't give each side a fair go, and it constantly going off on tangents. His "statistics" are dated and no longer accurate. Don't take it!

Prof. Velez was very attentive and gave us more than enough info to do well in his class. He arranged the online class in such a way that we had to stay engaged and participate, which I really liked. I would've taken the in-class version if I had the time. I highly recommend him if you want to dive deep into ethics.

He has good intentions. He is a bit all over the place. Not difficult to follow, per se; difficult to understand exactly what he wants from you. Overcomplicates his notes (which you must read to pass) and everyone I've spoken to about this needed to reread sentences several times just to understand. Uses textbook. Not very helpful outside of class.

Worst Class Ever. You never use the textbook you purchase. Test is based off of his notes (his notes are not easy to comprehend as he goes on a soap box). I think CSCC needs to evaluate this class and remove him from ever teaching another class.

Prof. Velez was a great teacher. Very passionate about philosophy. A lot of confusing material to read, but he explains it well in class. This class isn't graded on "right answers". You just have to be consistent with your moral beliefs. The class seems hard at first, but does get easier. If you do the work, you'll get a good grade. Stick with it!
