He's an okay professor. He teaches the material and is nice. However, he doesn't really interact with students beyond the classroom (i.e. office hours). Still a good professor though.

I used to love French but not with him as a professor. Very condescending and doesn't listen to students very well. Hated the class.

Gallagher knows his sh*t. His classes are heavy on reading, attendance is absolutely mandatory but if you care and pay attention you'll learn a lot. Each class he brings a minimum of 4 supplementary pages - adds so much to the reading. I've taken 3 classes with Gallagher and have come to really appreciate his teaching style.

Comment:
FYS class unbelievably tedious, His monotone voice paraphrased every story for over an hour. He required class participation yet disagreed or disregarded everything his students said. he was incredibly narrow minded in the readings, and stubborn and cruel to those of us who were struggling or held a unique view on the material

Overall, a very good professor. Very tough, and a little rough in class with his judgments over your answers, pronunciation, etc. but you really learn the grammar. The works of literature chosen, especially Huis Clos by Sarte, are excellent.

I took French for reading knowledge TEN years ago and still remember enough to be able to read it fluently and pass the language requirement at my present degree program because Prof. Gallagher did such a thorough job.

Worst class I ever took!!!! I hated eery minute of it, he does not teach, he paraphrases the books and when you want to discuss the book in a thematic way, he cuts you off and may i say he has the thickest american accent ever! He is a sweet man but an AWFUL professor

Is known to say the phrase n'est pas? over 116 times per class. The most monotone and boring voice.. EVER. Staring at walls is the only way to get through this class. Otherwise, he's helpfull and the classes are pretty easy.
