Dr. O is so wonderful and kind. Yes, she's opinionated but she is always open to hear other interpretations of the works, as long as one has textual evidence and makes a little bit of sense. Her opinions are so enlightening as well - she really taught us how to "waterski across the surface of poems," like Billy Collins would say.

I enjoyed Dr. O's class format. She relies on discussions a lot, so be prepared to talk! I didn't feel like she was a very tough grader, however. I mean, you had to write a good paper, but if you do that and incorporate a lot of quotes into it, you'll be fine.

Literary theory in fall 05 was the most work my brain has ever done and was worth every minute. Dr. O is the most amazing professor. She helped me wrap my head around concepts that I now carry into every other class and to my life. She is the reason I am going to graduate school.

Favoritism doesn't even begin to cover it. On papers, she agrees with everything yet arbitrarily grades it a C. Students that admit to not even finishing tests come back with higher grades. Don't bother trying to do well if you're associated with certain other popular english professors... doing well in discussion has no relevance to your grade.

A bit scary, but she's actually nice once you get past that. Have had trouble getting help from her--wouldn't explain a handout I didn't understand, just kept referring me back to it--but once you know what she expects from you, it's not hard to give it to her.
