Comment:

Haraguchi-sensei, as she likes to be called, is a wonderful teacher. Her funny and sweet attitude made me look forward to every class. She cares a lot about her students, which is evident in the extra office hours she holds during the latter half of quarter. I only wish I could continue to learn with her!

Comment:

Absolutely the best professor I've had at UCI yet. Very clear and firm in teaching, but she also gets to know all of her students and genuinely cares. Japanese is tough no matter what, but Haraguchi-sensei is there to help if you make the effort to accept it. When I retake next fall, if she is teaching JPN1A again I will retake with her.

I came into Japanese with a lot of prior background and even then her quizzes, while not hard, were graded rather harshly. Her stories are absolutely hilarious though, never a dull moment! I don't recommend her if you can't understand fast Japanese though-- I watched some of my classmates get progressively more lost as the hour dragged on.

She is the BEST professor! She is VERY caring and helpful. Encourages you to do the extra credit. She makes class interesting and fun. Class work isn't that hard. Should study, though. Grading system the same as the previous class. Definitely a lovely teacher.

She's a great teacher. It is fun and interesting. You still have to study though otherwise it will be tough. It's hard to get an A just it's competitive. (30% rule where the top 30% of class can be in the A category). Be prepared to compete against classmates and do extra credit. Otherwise, a B is easy.

Haraguchi-sensei has a really great sense of humor, so even if you're buried in kanji up to your neck you still feel like you're having fun. She'll definitely go out of her way to help you out. That being said, Japanese is hard and you shouldn't take it if you're not serious. If that's the case, why not take Spanish instead?

Very kind lady. Very helpful teacher. Likes to tell stories to make the class more fun, and elaborate on the material. Will answer questions thoughtfully. Friendly, good teacher, and definitely recommended.

I was taking the class P/NP, so I didn't put as much effort, but if I did, this class is not that hard. Sometimes I felt lost b/c she speaks like a "native JPNS speaker" (fast)--Her class is as good as how much effort you put into. She does go out of her way to help you and is easy to access.

one of my favorite professors at uci, has great heart and student's best interests always at heart. will go out of her way to help you pass and really willing to put her butt on the line to help us do better, even willing to talk to department heads at times...all in all, one of the best i've had
