Received 0 feedback on assignments throughout the whole course. Midterm included specific details that had no relevance to the course. During discussions he would interrogate students with extremely specific questions about readings that no one ever remembered. Very unclear grading criteria for all assignments. Hard marker.

It's only difficult because he provides no direction, contradicts what he says and does not care if his students succeed. Lectures are just a mess of old slides that jump all over the place with random information that's not necessarily related to the course content. I chose not to listen to the negative reviews and that was a big mistake. Avoid.

The most useless class that I have ever taken. He takes marks off for things that have nothing to do with the assignments. I don't know what to say, I am speechless. Avoid him if possible. You learn nothing from his classes.

My courses were mandatory with Eldon. The second time I had him I was actually PROMISED that he WOULD NOT be teaching the course, but it's a FNST course and he seems to teach all them all the time. Good course if you like stories and interesting facts. Biggest problem is that he grades you on how well you can tell a story and remember random facts.

He knows specific details about random events and expects you as the student to know them as well, regardless of whether or not he asked you to. He says there is 'class discussion' but he really just sits there and picks on one student as asks SUPER specific questions about a detail that really has no relevance to the topic. TERRIBLE

Doesn't explain anything in regards to what he wants for assignments. Even talking to him after class doesn't help. Appears to have a need to let everyone know of any knowledge he has in regards to anything. Nice enough guy but not a very good instructor.

Dr.Y is very approachable and was happy to provide additional feedback/discussion outside of class. He has a wealth of experience in first nations studies/archaeology, so the lectures were interesting. He often expects students to engage in discussions, which lends for a rich learning experience (NOT textbook regurgitation). I recommend his courses

Eldon is a funny guy! I enjoyed this class. He is a fair marker with his assignments, and I liked how he was open on how you interpreted the document you would base it on. He does lack a bit with feedback on your papers which don't really help on doing better for the next assignment, but the grade was not bad. Would recommend this class!

Nice guy,not actually that bad, probably improved from all the bad comments he's gotten. Got rid of the textbook, but has this reading list now filled with articles. His exams though were pure memorization of pretty much word for word from any of the slides. Especially with terrible questions like match the author with their book/article.

exams are based on insignificant facts. If this were a course on the periodic table, he would quiz you on the atomic mass to 5dp for two elements rather than ask about differences between metals and metalloids. WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME. I can't believe this is a requirement for arch students. Took FNST101 and it was much more informative.

Eldon is very friendly, I highly disagree with the comments on here that attack his character. His expectations are not outside the realm of usual expectations for a 400-level course. The course outline could afford more clarity in regards to word limit, formatting, etc. for assignments but if you ASK he will answer!

Spent the last half of the semester talking about how bad natives have it...Gave us a slide show in the abosulte darkness So we couldn't take notes. We asked him if it would be on the exam because we couldn't see and he said no. Come exam time low and behold it was the essay question....avoid!

This was a terrible class. The exams tested your ability to memorize, and not learn concepts. He asks for dates, specific names, and sites. An essay question on the midterm was on a slideshow he gave us with the LIGHTS OFF - how the heck were we supposed to take notes with the lights completely off?! Class averages on tests were low - around 60%.

Where is he during his office hours? I think his mind is somewhere else. It never seems as though he is really all there in class. Lecture is ok, but he kinda generalizes things.

He's a good prof, it's just his teaching style is very difficult for students to process. It's true he wants insignificant details when testing so just studying everything and you'll be fine, there isn't that much information. 2 pages typed of notes per lecture.

I was very interested in the class, before it started. He teaches all over the place, favouring native views and opinons. His exams were had ridiculous questions that appeared out of no where (there were even questions about stuff he said wouldn't be on it). The lectures that the TA did where 110x better then his.
