sit IN FRONT of the class. her voice is really small. She'll point your mistakes, tell you how to "interpret" answers. Remember them, and you'll do fine. She'll NEVER check your homework if your score is decent. quizzes every week though. Every lecture notes, quizzes, is the same format as final's. Download Geogebra. A kind teacher. Best of luck.

1 quiz, 1 assignment every week. Chapter to read per week and online homework.. The teacher did not really explain things, I got more help from classmates. She was vague and gave really unrealistic word problems that would never be used. We were taught to do things and then told we shouldn't be doing them. Confusing but overall easy/moderate

First of all this class is ridiculous, its like riddles 101. The professor? She's basically the Riddler; She doesn't explain anything and if we ask for help or if we got a question right, she answers with something that over-complicates everything and makes you question all your work. I write more in this class than I do in my English class...

I'm in my second year at SFU now, and the FAN X99 with Elena I took in my first semester is still the hardest class I've ever taken. She takes no time to go over the basics, which is really weird considering most people in the class were there because they don't know the basics. Worst class ever.

Be prepared to put a lot of time in if you haven't taken any math classes in a while or have a weak math background. Attend the workshops! I really enjoyed her as a prof, she cares about her students doing well and is always available to help. I found Khan academy really useful though if you need to brush up on your skills.

A very good and understanding teacher. Takes lots of pain even outside the class to help you. Explains the same problem in multiple number of ways. If you find this level difficult take extra care to practise. Expect this class to have students of lots of levels. If you have not taken Math for a long time, this course is good to boost confidence.

I am currently enrolled in FANX99 and for a year I had anxiety about this class knowing i have to take within the next two semesters to not get blocked. This class is atrocious; it is basically all problem solving. SFU is making students take this but it is nothing like grd 11 math. This is ironic as it is a foundations class yet (1)

Shes a very nice teacher! I passed her class, but I couldve totally gotten a better mark, if it wasnt for my silly errors on tests, so its not her fault at all!! SHES A VERY GOOD TEACHER N HER TESTS AND NOTES ARE VERY GOOD! DEFINITELY TAKE HER!

While she is a very nice lady and seems very sweet in nature I found her lacking in explanation and clarity ... dropped out as this was a required course and I didn't not feel that she would be helpful at all during the semester. She gives no notes just examples and doesnt explain the concepts of what she is teaching or its relevance tothe material

I really disliked Elena. She doesn't give out notes, doesn't explain how to do a problem and expects you to learn for yourself. The thing is, we are FAN students and we NEED help. I strongly disrecommend her. Never ask her for help, you will end up getting confused further.

For a FAN class, expect hardly any notes on the basics (in contrast to the other profs). She'll send you straight into word problems. This is actually good though because it preps you for the exams fully and you will know how to solve each variation given. She has a little accent, likes to smile a lot and an interesting sense of humour (:

Incredible teacher! At first, I had a terrible impression because of her soft voice, and difficult way of speech, but I got used to it after two weeks. Tutorial session was when my impression changed. She's the only prof I know who asks students if they need help! How can any other prof beat that?
