As a first year student, this class was an actual nightmare to take. He is very rude to students who ask questions about upcoming tests and expects hours upon hours of studying for each test. I would not recommend this class at all, unless you really want to memorize 40+ flashcards packed with information for each test.

Worst professor I have ever had. Expects all students to immediately develop the same passion for art history as him even though it's a gen ed course. Condescending and not helpful to his students at all. I would never recommend to take his class unless you're an actual art major and have previous experience with art history.

Bentor is incredibly learned and passionate about his subject, he's a person that warrants respect. His class is very, very hard if you can't find the same passion that he has. Tests were hard and they are the only grades for the class so study THOROUGHLY. If art appreciation is not your thing then choose another class, it will be miserable.

Though he seems like a great guy who really loves his field, he is not a very good teacher. He is painfully long winded often resulting in class running overtime and him having to rush through important parts of the lecture. He is also often factually incorrect in lectures and is unclear in his essay questions.

Professor Bentor is very knowledgeable in art history and wants his students to be as passionate about it as he is. When listening and taking notes on his lectures, consider the fact that he is really telling you a story, not just regurgitating facts, and you will do well in the course. He is not impressed by a students' ability to memorize a list.

I took Art from 1400 to the Present with Prof. Bentor and it was AMAZING. I know everyone says he's tough so here are some tips: 1. Go to every class! 2. Keep up with readings, they provide more info than what he gives in class. 3. Start studying for tests a week in advance. 4. Make sure you know the overarching historical themes of the unit.

I hate this class with a passion and I always dread going. Very boring, and his tests are extremely hard and a very tough grader. I would not recommend him, avoid taking his class if possible.

I love art so I really enjoyed this class. If you don't like art, you will be bored. Can be hard to understand. Long, dry, lectures, but they are FULL of information. If you don't take excellent notes, you won't do well. Tests require lengthy study sessions and great writing skills. Tough grader, but he notices and rewards effort. TAKE GOOD NOTES!!

worst teacher ever. if you're looking for an easy a in art history go for vicki clift. thats the best art history teacher I have ever had! Eli tells you not to memorize the images but that is wrong wrong wrong. you need to memorize or you will fail! makes you know 30-40 mirages and then asks you 7 of them and an essay. not an easy grader either.

He was a terrible teacher. He took attendance and claimed it wasn't mandatory but he defintiely wanted to keep track of who was coming and who wasn't. If you went to class and wrote down everything he said/studied the notes religously you might be okay... I would not reccommend him, he is condescending, extremely boring and a harsh grader!

Eli loves the subject he teaches and it shows through is lectures. He tries to make connections between topics to help you understand it. Unfortunately, his accent makes him hard to understand and sometimes his speech will put you to sleep. Tests are hard, but he grades easy on the written assessments. One group project that he grades easy on.

I personally had a terrible time in his class. I would recommend Stephenson or Toub in place of Bentor. I found him hard to understand and very unhelpful. Students are paying him to learn, not the other way around.

Art History is a tough class overall, but I feel that Eli makes it easier to understand through extreme depth into subjects and passion for what he is teaching. If you have Eli, you will have to study a lot for his exams and work hard to earn an A.

He knows his stuff but he paces around the room and is very distracting plus his lectures are very boring. His tests are hard and you have to memorize around 30-40 images and everything about them. This class is not for those looking for an easy A or B. You will need to spend countless hours studying to pass his tests which are very hard.

ART HISTORY, PREHISTORY TO 1400. Challenging course (not exactly an easy A), extremely helpful, brilliant professor. There is one drawback: the course is held in a dark room without AC, and the professor has a rather soothing (almost french) accent - he's actually Israeli. This is like the perfect storm of sleep. Bring Coffee and pay attention.

If you don't already have a passion for art and the symbolism/ history behind it, AVOID this class at all costs. I enjoyed it b/c Dr. Bentor is very, very knowledgeable. His lectures are dry and boring, true, but I learned a lot. Again, if you're looking for an easy A or B, AVOID this class.

HARDEST TEACHER EVER! He is very knowledgable and into the material, but he paces back and forth and it is distracting. The tests are SO hard. Unless you are an overachiever like me do not take him. I studied very hard for the exams, you have to memorize about 40 images and everything about them for each one. Good Luck!

He's such a nice guy, and is definitely very passionate about what he is teaching. He actually made material that I've never been interested in before very interesting. Downside is...his class is ridiculously hard. No attendance policy, but fall behind a tiny bit and you're done for. Tests are ridiculous just because he expects you to know so much.
