Interesting Prof, kinda dry... took online which the lectures are ancient and they always end before the class is over so you never get a summary... tests are hard mostly essays based on the reading... wouldn't take online from him again b/c concepts were hard to understand and he was not very helpful (i.e... emailing, test results etc.)

He is hands down my favorite Professor I've ever had. His class is no cake walk though. You will have to try and apply yourself. I've had him twice for a Judaism and Intro to Political Theory class and I have never retained more knowledge. I HIGHLY recommend taking him. Like I said before he isn't the easiest teacher but you will learn SO MUCH

As a senior studying political science I can say with great sincerity that Professor Bartky is the best POLS professor on campus. His intellect and knowledge of history are truly astounding. His classes are challenging and require a lot of effort but are all worth the work.

Comment:
Bartky is incredibly knowledgeable about political philosophy. His courses are pretty intense, and reading and lectures are a must to get a good grade. He teaches in the socratic method, asking questions. He isn't alwasy clear on core concepts, but he will answer in-class questions to clear it up. Don't take his classes online, though.

Not only was Political Theory difficult, it was hard to understand some key concepts especially when the professor would not email back regarding questions. A very difficult class to take via online - not recommended with this professor!

Took his class online. All his lectures are recorded and 3 years old. Did not receive any tests back till my third one. Emailed him constantly about them, never once heard from him. Found out he was out of the country the whole semester, but was still getting paid to "teach".

I had him for two classes, Problems/Promises of Democracy and Intro to Political Theory. His classes require a lot of difficult reading and are nearly all lecture, which are presented in the Socratic method, asking questions. I loved him and would take every class he teaches if possible. Hard, rewarding, and enjoyable.

Great Professor, if you have a chance to take one of his courses do it. Reading the text is very helpful, if you dont you will be lost, same with the lectures.

Stories are entertaining- very hard teacher. Used to teach at Notre Dame for 18 years. His tests are mostly weighed on essays- which are graded on critical thinking. Overall I would not take this prof. unless you have 15-20 hours a weeks to devote to this class. A ton of reading!

Incredibly boring class, but if you have to take it, he's probably the best option. The hard part about this class is that each sentence in his lecture has a chance of appearing on a test.
