Prof. Culver is a great guy and as long as it shows that you are making an effort to understand the material, you will do well. I came into the class with no knowledge of music or musical talent and did well because I payed attention in class and so I was able to pick up the material.

Transferring from Holy Cross because there's only ONE string ensemble and it's HIS. He is worse than useless and gender biased. Music is important in a college, and Holy Cross just DOES NOT CARE. The concert band tries but there's only so much that can be done at a school that doesn't care. And practice rooms? HA!

Professor Culver likes to call individual people out during rehearsal. He doesn't understand that orchestra is an extracurricular, and not your entire life, and takes it personally if you have to miss a rehearsal. He makes you feel like you are the world's worst musician, and is not afraid to insult you.

horrible. i took him several years ago and I still get upset because he basically told me I would never amount for anything in music. totally arrogant and should not be a prof at holy cross at all... he is not interested in your music unless you're a virtuoso, so don't even try. he's not worth your time

The reason people don't like this class is because their idiots when it comes to music. If you have just a small amount prior music experience, you should have no difficulty at least understanding the class. The teacher is fine, the grading is not difficult at all. Take the prof if you have some past experience and enjoy free-form lectures/grading.

He does not direct. He utterly fails to project his vision of the music through the orchestra and unify all the instruments into a cohesive whole. Instruments are frequently not together, because he directs in a radius of 5 inches. He is the type that, instead of taking control (which is his job) will plead, cajole, and then lose control.

Eric is a great guy. I did a hc show where he was the musical director. He is very patient with you if you actually care to learn anything. He is a funny and nice guy. You just have to actually put in effort and DO what is required of you. And get help if you need it.

whoever gave culver a bad rating because they felt accosted by him obviously is socially incapable of dealing with different types of people. i was doing bad in his class because i didnt do the work, but then got help and did well. he is nice, and, very passionate about music.

He made me cry at almost every rehearsal...he's a really horrible teacher...I'm not sure why he's here. I heard they tried to fire him, but then couldn't find anyone else, so he's still here. Explains a lot to me...
