Eric is an interesting prof to have if only for his insanely cryptic and hilarious emails. Get ready for some confusion in regards to what he wants on your papers but he's usually pretty good about answering questions. Discussion is thoroughly interesting however I did find myself stretching a bit to find his main point.

Eric is not only a good professor, but an amazing mentor. His intro classes can be lacking (because he doesn't like teaching comparative politics), but his upper level Latin American classes are very thorough. He has been my favorite professor while at SU despite only taking one class with him. pro-tip: read some of his work. its a big deal.

Eric is amazing. He is friendly and encouraging, His classes are very difficult, the best thing that you can do for yourself is participate. Ask as many questions as you can and don't leave his class until you understand his points or you will be forever lost. Take really good notes and pay attention to the things he repeats, it will come in handy.

Super interesting lectures. Class participation is not only for a grade but will also help in understanding the material which he explains well. Has clear expectation of students. Is very witty and sarcastic so DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY.

Entertaining and informative lectures. Very clear about what he expects from you, but if you don't do what he expects it's a cold world. 1010 would recommend, but do your work.

Awesome professor and cool guy all around. I would love to take his class again. He gives great feedback, there's a lot riding on your participation, and essays are a norm. Tons of reading, but it's all really interesting and my mind was blown on multiple occasions. Recommend 100%!!!

This was honestly one of the most interesting classes I have taken and would ever expect to take. Selbin effectively incorporated music, philosophy, lit., & politics into his course and helped me realize my goals of merging music/lit/psych. are not crazy. Selbin himself is extremely smart but also very approachable as a teacher and a friend.

I had Dr. Selbin during his first year at SU. He was friendly on a personal level but his grading was clearly slanted against those with political leanings contrary to his own. It needs to be said I didn't do well in his class.
