Comment:

Prof. Wheeler is certainly one of the best profs I've ever had because he cares in students being successful. It's fun studying computational linguistics because we get to apply everyday human language (syntax, semantics) with the tools we are familiar with in Java.

Comment:

Took this class in Sum05. Java isn' easy, be warned & if like me, u have not programmed, it will be tricky, but if you put the time in, u will do well. His examples are good and he offers extra credit. This class had 6 exams which split the course up really well and forced u to learn. I think negative comments unfair, good prof, huge experience.

I think he made this course harder than it suppose to be. His final exam in April 2005 was something that you would have never expected going in. Most of the final exam was graphical, and I think the stuff he puts on is more suitable in a 1630 course.

Even though he cant teach well, his marking and tests are very easy...i would personally recommend that you take 1630 with him as it will be very easy to get an A if you work a little bit !

Don't bother asking for clarification during his tests. His answer will always be "try your best". Overall I liked this class, I took 1620 with him and made sure I took 1630 with him as well.

He is not good at all. He never goes into details of java syntax. He only lectures from the book and briefly goes over the coding examples from the book. Overall he is a bad professor. What do you expect when York hires contract fill in professors.

Not Flexible. Exams are of much higher level than level taught in class. They say students are responsible for their own learning. Why then does York have such high tuition fees? We can study from text books and just write exams, no need for profs. Reduce tuition fees, and make it a fair system.

This guy follows the text book more then the BIBLE! ENTIRE COURSE IS STRAIGHT FROM THE BOOK! And he wants WORD TO WORD ANSWERS! A 4th yr course you would think he would be an easy marker, HELL NO! Oh, and believes that your OVERALL GPA DOESNT MATTER!!
