Stabenau tends to get a bad rap because he scares a lot of people, but he's honestly a very nice guy. Don't ask bad questions or he will rip you apart. He makes his criteria very clear when it comes to papers and grades very fairly.

the vast majority of the questions in this class are literally straight from the power points so take good notes. Don't be afraid to go ask him questions as long as you're clear about what you want to ask about. Stay on top of the quizzes because they can make or break your grade.

Though he gives the impression that he is knowledgable on the topics he teaches, he seems to have a narrow set that he can actually elaborate on when a student asks. He isn't helpful when you ask him questions because he just repeats the same thing over and over again and that is supposed to help you. Hard to approach. Always seems preoccupied.

After suffering through 250 with Dr. Stabenau, I was very worried about this class. However, the questions on the tests and quizzes were straight from the lectures. So make sure you take good notes. Still, he is a tough grader and I was always afraid to ask for help.

Comment:

Stabenau teaches this with Morris and it is by far the hardest class I have ever taken. Everyone in the class felt the same way and we were constantly swamped in homework. That being said, both professors are very clear and willing to help. Overall this class taught me more than any others. Terrible at the time but well worth it in the end.

This is the hardest class I have ever taken. It requires an extreme amount of time and effort both in class and out of class. I spent about 100 hours of my own time working on the final project. Stabenau is very intimidating,he can be very harsh in class but one on one he is very nice. I just wish he was more clear on notes,he is very smart though.

He is intimidating and often downright rude to students. I went to ask him a question while he was in his office and he turned me away. Doesn't respond to emails very well. Treats students like they are dumb. I'm hoping I can get at least a B in this class. The content isn't hard, he MAKES it hard.

His goal is to get you to think. He won't coddle you; you must put forth the effort for your grade. The material is easy, but his expectations are high, as they should be. Erich is one of my favorite professors at BU. I share his sense of humor, so I think he's hilarious. His lectures are very enjoyable. He's kind of cute too. :)

Not clear in explanation. treats you like you are dumb. answers questions with attitude. sounds like he hates answering questions. hard to approach. uses 250 students as lab rats for his lab experiments then asks them to be in his lab. if you want to pass this class join a group that will do his projects for him.

Organismal Bio will definitely be one of the most demanding courses one will take in the Bio seq. But it is definitely worth all of the effort. Stabenau was one of the best professors I have ever had at BU bc his expectations are very attainable if you put forth your best effort. He is super willing to work with those who want to earn their grade.
