Great Professor. The material was difficult and nuanced, but he understands that and allows students to connect with the work in a meaningful and constructive way. I definitely recommend you to take a class with him.

His lectures are dense, and but if you've read the material, it should be okay. He speaks very passionately, and is inspiring. He is very helpful if you talk to him outside of class.

I took Existentialism, Philosophy & Film, Frankfurt School, Modern Phil, 20th Century Phil & Sartre with him during my tenure at Trinity- despite the fact that I was not a philosophy major. I am now about to get a PhD in phil thanks to him. He was the only professor whose classes prepared me for graduate school. Brilliant, mysterious and kind man.

Great professor, knows the subject back and forth. A bit intimidating at first, but really helpful if you see him in his office hours. I had never taken a philosophy class before and he did a great job of drawing my interest to the subject.

One of the best Professors I've had at Trinity/ My first Philosophy course was Philosophy and Revolution-took it for the historical value, but walked away transformed. Prof. Vogt's lectures are exciting, thought provoking and integral to course- explains difficult concepts thoroughly. Read the material, attend all classes and on time.

His handwriting is atrocious and I think he makes up words sometimes, but he genuinely wants students to understand him. Although he's kind of intimidating, his nice if you seek his help! Do your readings & come to class, it's not the type of thing you can understand on your own!

Comment:
He's a brilliant man, and he's actually very approachable and friendly, too. His discourse is exceedingly dense and does assume that his students have very philosophically-oriented minds, but as long as one has read, his class doesn't pose all that much trouble. His lecture style is very dry, yet he has a fun sense of humor, too.

the rater below tried to talk about SEA MONSTERS in class ................... the only bad thing about vogt is that you feel like an idiot for asking about philosophers' concepts because he assumes you understands them. Kant, Sartre, Nietzsche, Hegel, Husserl, Lacan, Freud, Marx, Althusser, Derrida, Adorno, Habermas. It will expand your mind

Comment:
Now I didn't finish his course, so this may not be accurate, but he sat there and read from a prepared lecture for 3 hours straight. There was almost no eyecontact with class, no discussion and no interaction with us. I'm not exagerating whatsoever. It may as well have been a class on tape. I don't think that style is worth my money or time.

The guys is really smart, he knows his stuff, but basically assumes that everyone has an extensive knowledge on philosophy. Class is hard to follow because his vocabulary is insane and he never puts things into layman's terms. However, even if you don't really understand class you can still get A's on essays just by responding to the reading.

Erik's one smart dude. He's your typical arrogant European intellectual--with that comes certain strengths and weaknesses. If you're willing to work and get into the discourse, he'll learn you good.

Interesting lectures but confusing material and especially difficult if you have no background in Philosophy. Good enough professor, but I think he's overrated.

The sheer density of information conveyed when he speaks takes some getting used to, but once you do, he is an absolutely phenomenal professor. Not unknown to assign 30 page papers.
