I took Fontana for poetry. When I think of him, I just have to laugh. He is so out there and goofy, we laughed so much during class. He is nice and will work with you if you are having trouble on the tests.

Fontana is the man. Easy, funny, you seriously only have to go to like 10 classes all semester. Take him if he teaches it again, although I know he is retiring soon.

This class was fairly easy. I wrote down what he said and only studied the poems on the study guide and received As. However, he was unclear and often rambled. From what I saw, he doesn't appreciate view points that differ from his; if you restate what he says, you will get an A. We barely read minority poets, which made the class fairly narrow.

Fontana is overall a pretty good guy. Class is easy going, but the man mumbles, and rambles, A TON. You could absolutely pass the class and even get a good grade without even showing up. Only 4 papers in the class, no tests, and is a fairly easy grader. Class is overall pretty easy, but prepare to SNOOZE while in class. Would probably take again.

Rambles A LOT. Exams are easy if you regurgitate what he says in class. Papers aren't long and the reading isn't much (you can just skim it after class if you pay attention). Some interesting subject matter, but a lot doesn't really relate to lit crit. Likes to make fun of feminists. Don't read many minority critics (1 black, 2 women out of 30).

Enjoyed his classes. He has moments of dry-ness, but is generally entertaining. It's clear that he hopes to inspire his students about the subject.

Write down EVERYTHING he says in class about the poems: test questions are detailed. But if you carefully study the prompts he gives you, you'll be fine. Papers are short and grading is fair. Sometimes boring, sometimes funny. Can sometimes be rude and sort of plays favorites. Never read "Poetic Meter and Form" but did fine. Interesting material.

I am so turned on every time I am in front of Ernie, listening to his compelling speech. Good god, his insight into the sexual realm of poetry is amazing. He really should be published or something like that. If he isn't, the publishers will be sorry!

Nice guy, I like Ernie. Talks about sex a lot, and he's funny. Write down whatever he says about the poems or you will definitely not get an A. Take it from a guy who didn't write anything before the 1st exam--I learned to record his speeches real fast! Can get annoying when he picks on you to read, but if he likes you, expect to cruise.

He's a pretty funny guy. Really enjoys talking about anything dealing with sex. Classes aren't bad. No hw other than reading and reciting poems and he grades pretty fairly on papers. His tests are tricky though, so make sure you write down every single word he says in class about the poems and regurgitate them on the tests.

DEFINITELY picks favorites. Classes are basically pointless...he blabs and fawns over his favorite students...and this is coming from someone who has gotten As on all the papers. Wouldn't take him again.

An absolutely hilarious teacher who knows his stuff - he just isn't that great teaching it. Tends to go off on long tangents in class which makes paying attention difficult. However, he's a very fair grader and will help you get an A in his class.

Not a GENUINE graduate course. Regarding the 12/25/04 comment of "willing to negotiate for a good grade," how does that represent a principled teacher?
