He's a cool guy, but honestly each and every lecture was just so dry. This was by far the hardest I've had to consistently try to stay awake, and not only were the lectures boring, but I feel like I didn't learn much in them, although that may just be a byproduct of the boringness. Still not the worst, but I wouldn't voluntarily take another w/ him

Admitted on his own that he hadn't done any applicable programming related to the class in 10+ years. He did not make his own lecture notes, used another professor's and did not even review those before class. One of the tests you literally could not finish without memorizing the code; therefore average was bad to which he blamed the students.

I think professor Spafford is a smart, intelligent guy who really knows his stuff. However, he can't really teach us. I could not learn C programming from the boring lecture slides during class. The lab assignments were difficult. I was spending 20 hours a week working on lab assignments to make sure I was getting a good grade. Wouldn't recommend.

Not a great experience. Sometime hard to communicate. The decisions made are surprising. I think TAs did a great job, but this class is poorly organized. A lab handout can be updated several times and waste a lot of your code. Exam grades came out almost ridiculous. So many things has to be fixed.

Outstanding teacher. Loosely structured format, with strong focus on class discussion. Spaf's expertise extends to subjects beyond Computer Science, and he brings his real world experience with security and privacy to the class. Great teacher, great course.

Storytime w/uncle Spafford. No syllabus. No plan. No idea what he's going to do when he walks in the door. Stories are often misleading and erroneous; he seems to believe that his areas of expertise include much more than computer science (e.g. medicine, Victorian England, etc.). Condescending and patronizing, ****. Educational Malpractice.

Buyer beware. This travel salesman may not have a course syllabus throughout the whole semester.
