A really hard class. I took the online version and was shocked at the little guidance and how long and the weekly quizzes were. They were basically like weekly exams. The exams were even worse. They were like three of the long quizzes combined. I don't mind self-tutoring but this class really required a lot of time and effort for such a basic math.

If you're checking this whilst picking class, good on you! Please don't sign up with Afenya. Here's why: He's a really goofy, nice guy but he's not a good math teacher. He's very smart, but he lacks the skill of helping others understand the material. Pick another instructor or put the class off if necessary.

Probably the worst professor I have ever had. The material he teaches does not match up with quiz/test. When he grades, he subtracts like ten points and no partial credit. Although Afenya is a nice guy, he is not clear or helpful at all; avoid him!

do NOT take him.. This class is suppose to be a concepts course and he makes everything so confusing.. A lot of the kids in the class are good in math and he just doesn't know how to explain things differently. he will try and explain and he tries to be helpful.. he will also give some points back on quizzestests if a lot of people do bad.

Worst teacher I have ever had. Difficult to understand, goes too fast, makes his lessons way too complicated, makes his tests IMPOSSIBLE to finish in the allotted time, and is not helpful in the slightest. Bad teacher. Also would not let a group of girls work together because "girls need to have a guy in the group." AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

if you are looking to pass this class DO NOT take this teacher. he is smart, yes. he knows the material, but he is NOT a good teacher at all. he should NOT be teaching. instead he should be working in a lab the class is way to hard for the level. he is confusing. goes too fast thru the material &he puts you on the spot to give answers not helpful

I am a math major, and he made me feel like I need to switch majors. He is an incredibly intelligent man, but he is, by far, the WORST teacher I have ever had in all of my years in school. He goes over the material too quickly and does not help you if you ask for it. I DO NOT recommend taking any of his classes. Avoid it if possible.

I had him for statistics and this is a hard class. The homework problems and examples in class are on the tests. He offers study sessions if you ask and he tries to help you get a better grade. He is really smart and gives hard tests, but if you do the homework and study, you can do well!

I don't understand why people are saying that Afenya is such a bad teacher. Sure, he may be a little difficult to understand at times because of his accent but that's really the only thing. He is nice, funny, and a good teacher. As long as you pay attention and are ready to participate, it's cake.

Dr. Afenya is funny and overall a nice guy, but he doesn't teach math well or teach students to like math. He goes over the material way too fast for a lower level course. I was just lucky that I could teach myself the material out of the book to get an A. But if you have trouble with math, don't take his course.

He is such a nice, funny, and SUPER smart professor. He has a lot of passion for what he does, however it is very difficult to understand him and requires multiple hours of studying. Tests are HARD and take lots of time. A lot of time is required to do well in this course. Being confused is a normal reaction to this class. Hard.

Dr. Afenya is soooo smart, but he's not so great at teaching. He is one of those people who knows what he's talking about and can't really get it across to others. He's a nice guy and like I said, so smart, but his tests are HARD. Use the book to learn and get into study groups. I got an A in his class, but I did all the hw and studied a lot.

I had Dr. Afenya for Calculus 3 and Discrete Math. Both classes were difficult. Afenya is very intelligent and expects students to be smarter than they really are. His lectures are confusing at times. His tests are way too hard. He isn't helpful at all, just says the same thing, "keep practicing." Says random jokes sometimes. Class was pretty bad.

He is NOT the worst teacher ever. However, it is a difficult class and you need to work hard to get a good grade. I am not a math person and I had to go in for help several times a week to get a B in the class. If you want an easy "A" its not with him. He wants you to really know the material and the tests are tricky.

1st of all its not even math, its rocket science...so pointless. Afenya's a nice guy, but could care less about how you do. He is also just a down right terrible teacher. He does problems the wrong way in class, then you're lost on homework. Seriously the most useless class I've ever taken.I lost all confidence in math skills that I once had

one of the hardest classes i have ever taken. if you aren't smart in the mathematical field...i don't recommend u enroll in any of his classes. he makes every test hard enough so that it is a challenge for the top students which gives no room for others to do well. AND he constantly makes jokes about students' and their grades in front of the class
