Professor Simien was absolutely amazing. It was definitely a lot of work, but if you do the readings and show up to class, you'll be fine. Ultimately, the work you put in pays off because this class is one of those select few that really matter.

If you like to raise your hand and participate then you'll be fine in this class. There is a ton of reading and some pop quizzes. Don't recommend this class to someone that is shy or likes to skip class. The quizzes and tests aren't terrible but they aren't easy either.

DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! There is nothing wrong with working hard for a grade but she grades extremely hard! gives pop quizzes all the time and a group project she'll never be satisfied with. well versed in her field but she assumes you know how to do everything. digresses each class on personal stories and never fully answers your questions.

Dr. Simien is a tough grader, pop quizzes and gives lengthy readings, but if you put in the work it will pay off in your grade and in the incredible amount you learn. I've taken two classes with her and they're my favorite I've taken at UConn. If you're not interested in hard work, don't take her class. If you actually want to learn, definitely do.

Prof. Simien is one of the most dedicated and intelligent professors I have had the pleasure of meeting in my time at UConn. Her classes are difficult and require hard work (which - news flash, is the PURPOSE of attending a university). If you are willing to put in the effort, you will learn more in this class than the rest of your classes combined

I worked extremely hard all semester. Iwas dealing with personal issues and she didn't seem to care. I was unable to attend her office hours but still utilized her suggested resources. Not only did she contradict her syllabus grading scheme in class, she rudely replied to my emails regarding my final paper grade. Will destroy your GPA, avoid her!

She is very difficult and not welcoming. She grades extremely hard and gives pop quizzes all the time. She assigns readings that are over 20 pages every night. She always takes attendance but also expects you to participate. She is intimidating. I would not recommend her.

She goes overboard about personal life and its not relevant. Well versed in her material but then ends up redoing some of the stereotypes we discuss. It's weird. I did alright but don't challenge her she will attack your grade. Do the readings, participate, and don't bother sharing how you really feel, no matter how much she says she cares.

Extremely difficult, will treat students like they are all political science majors. She is dedicated to her work and her students, and doesnt expect students to slack, she will not care. Expects everyone to have grad level writing abilities. Will ramble on about personal life, or spend an hour talking about irrelevantnes.

She treats the class like its a High School honors course. She takes attendance, makes speaking nearly mandatory and assigns 40 pages of reading every two days! The exams are BS and she intentionally tries to trick students with the most random questions. Dont take her class!

She is very hard.If you take a class with her be prepared to do ALL the readings and participate all the time because she will count how many times you speak and do your participation grade from that.Her quizzes and exams can be very unfair and ask you very misc. questions about the readings. Do not take a class with her for your own sake.

Dr. Simien is a challenging professor who takes her work seriously. She makes a great professor becuase she expects the same dedication from her students. Her material is always provocative and enlightening. She is very helpful and always available for office hours. If you are a slacker don't take the course.

Make sure you call her DR! It appears as though she has a grudge with the world.One good thing is she loves her job and her area of expertise,but she fails to realize that everyone was not born with a silver spoon in their mouth and she is very impersonal
