You learn so much about writing and yourself in this class. She presents writing in a different kind of way that will change the way you do things. She's so inspirational and I'm looking to take her again!

Comment:
Professor Cheong is one of those rare teachers who treats her students as human beings first. She is present with each person in her classroom and puts effort into understanding the individual needs of each one of them. She is also extremely knowledgable about writing and knows how to dissect the craft in a way that is both complex and clear.

Worthless. When does the teaching start??? The laziest prof I have ever had, and I've seen them all. Grade-school projects to waste time. Fully expect to make a cottonball snowman. How does this woman not get fired?

She's not for everyone, but in my experience, she has a profound of understanding of fictional craft, is deeply thoughtful about her teaching methods, and offers a perspective on writing (less emp on publishing, openness to pursuing student concerns) that is rare. I've gotten a lot out of her classes and found it easy to work with her personally.

Worst professor of all time.Convinces the weak-minded that lack of skill, insight is somehow "unconventional" because you DOODLE WITH CRAYONS.Clearly has nothing to fill class time, rarely reads anything submitted. For fun, ask a trick question about your work and listen to her vague answers that would make the laziest undergrad smile in recognition

i agree. this class is more like babysitting. no one learned anything and everyone hates this class. the professor herself doesn't seem interested and must use the time we spend meditating to apply for other jobs.

I hated this class. It was like third grade art all over again. Teacher was flighty and it was obvious she did not want to be in the classroom teaching us. She frittered away the time with vague lessons and nonsense. This class did not help my writing. The Professor treated us like children.

Classes were worthless. We spent most of the class LITERALLY drawing pictures with crayons. I learned NOTHING in this class and I'm a Fiction Writing major. The professor was really hard to get ahold of and it was very clear that teaching was very low on her priority list. The class was very unorganized. She assigned lots of textbooks we never u

Fantastic teacher; she is VERY unconventional, and her methods can be annoying (meditation, drawing, etc.) but she has a method to her madness. Her critiques are some of the best in the university and she gives great practical advice about writing.

The only professor I ever had in which I felt like our cultural differences negatively impacted my experience. She is obviously takes her job seriously, though. Take her if you WANT to learn by taking tests and doing exercises on the chalkboard.

Intermediate Fiction...in the summer...seemed pretty easy. However I was confused on all the readings we had to do. If you stay on her good side, I think you'll be fine.

verty distant personality. When I asked for more detailed help on my stories she wrote something like I cannot be your mentor even though I wasn't asking her to be my mentor. Probably a little to mired in gender/class/race bull****.
