Michele is extremely sweet and gives great feedback. Her lectures get a little dry sometimes, but she is always trying to make jokes around class. There are assignments every week for the final portfolio, so as long as you're on top of that, you will do fine.

Michele was actually a really great prof! She's caring, her office hours and very helpful and make sure to bring your assignments to her to read over. However, she is a tough grader, she doesn't give out anything above a B+ easily, so you must work hard in this course to get the grade you want.

Read your theory from the text and read your feedback on your assignments. Gives you a great framework of theory to apply to your assignments. Michele is also very postitive, dynamic, has personality galore and cloaks her intellectual abilities with a nuturing teaching style.

You don't take this class for an easy A. You really have to work for it, BUT it's totally worth it. You will learn things that will really help you in your undergrad career. She's also very understanding about deadlines and such. Very approachable.

It's a hard class, specially if you're taking it straight out of highschool. Also in the english department they very rarely give out A+ so its a toughie. Prof was very helpful and liked to engage students - the seminar format is really great - and make sure you go to office hours and make any adjustmentscorrections that she suggests.

Overall she is a decent prof who tries to engage students and is very into her teaching as well. However, she is a tough marker and don't always provide help even when it is promised (my half-hour appointment was made into 5 and no extra office hour was provided). Show up to class and read and follow the textbook. Long lectures.

She is an extremely hard marker, don't expect an A in her class, if you can scrap by with a B, consider yourself lucky. You forfeit your participation grade if you skip class twice. Giltrow worshipper, she has an unhealthy obsession with her, my biggest mistake was taking this class in my first year do not take it unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.

The TM is in charge of the online class. This class is quite hard I managed to get a B. But this class is no walk in the park. It's basically all assignments (writing) and 1 midterm. The marking for essays is like 4th year marking. So pretty difficult.

I never liked high school writing. I reluctantly took this course because my second degree required it. There was a lot of readings but they were useful. I liked this course because its explanations made sense. My strong vocabulary helps me in writing "abstractions" -- may be a student should take this in his final year? Or may be 1st year? Hmm...

Michele is the type of prof that you either get or you don't, she is very eccentric and can seem a bit odd at times, but the foundation of what she is teaching is really good. She is more flexible with upper level classes and will modify the readings and assignments based on our feedback (there was 10 of us in a class)

She isn't very organized but tries to be helpful by answering any questions. She loves the textbook's author so you have to write according to the textbook guidelines to get good marks. This course has some potential to improve your writing but I do not recommend taking this class with her.

Extremelly hard marker, way too many assignments, very vague and unhelpful. My friend who missed a class was not able to receive ANY of the missing handouts and the prof wasn't able to make extra time for her to give her extra help. Very disorganized and doesnt reply to important emails. Class is way too long (3 hrs) and could be condensed to 1 hr

hard marker! She is disorganized, always said she would email things, then "forgot". she ended up giving 5 assignments 2 weeks before end of term to complete, though she was supposed to assign one per week. I oncereturned to find everyone gone, and my laptop was left behind. She couldn't wait 2 mins for me to return. Class is always out early,

The course has useful material and she is good at teaching and getting the class involved. Only thing is that she is a tough marker! She is very approachable and will help you a lot, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll get an A. Pretty much have to live and breath english to do well.

She is easy to approach and always tries to help you with your work or any questions you have. Her marking tends to be unfair, so don't expect an easy A. Workload isn't light, but it's doable. Giltrow's books is used for this class, so never forget to emphasize and apply ideas from Giltrow's book into your papers. Class is always dismissed early.

this class offers very valuable information that will help you in university to write research papers. However that said, Michele is very unclear, unorganized, extremely unfair and she never gives back positive feedback. for a first year course DO NOT expect an easy mark.

I took this course online so the prof is irrelevant. It depends on your TA; they mark everything. I thought this was a very easy english course, I'm not particularly strong in it. You can get a good mark by just using the techniques taught in your essay (force them all in). It also really improved my overall writing skills as well.

I really liked her, I actually took the course with her a few semesters ago and I still think of her. I still use some of the stuff I learned in that class, especially reading papers and writing summaries. Always keep her notes around even though I'm doing health sciences.

She changed my perception on writing entirely. I learnt the importance of understanding the rationale of the writing styles behind each medium and how to integrate them to gain the trust of the reader. This was why she didn't give specific guidelines. She wanted us to develop the sensitivity to adjust our writing style in accordance to the context.
