Comment:

Worst professor I have ever had at KU. I graduated with honors and a 3.75 gpa and hers was the only class I ever dropped. She picks a couple of favorites and if you aren't it then you can't pass her class. She talks about how great she is in her field and her degree of education all the time. Assignments are unclear and she doesn't help at all.

"Pop quiz" once a week to keep people coming to class. She is the editor of the book, so read it carefully and try and figure out what she might think is important. The test questions are very very tricky with multiple answers so try getting points back through the TAs, it worked for me!

She is a very interesting teacher, a lot of funny comments. Highly related to the book (which she wrote) and test reflect the book almost entirely. If you like politics, this class is for you.

Comment:

She is very condescending and only willing to help so much. She will ask what she can do to be a better teacher, but then gets defensive if you try to tell her. Whatever she says has to be right because she has 20 yrs of experience and you don't. Don't take the class if you can help it.

I feel that Fiona does not do everything possible to help her students succeed. I was in her class recently, and when I asked for help, I was told that I basically had to take what I was going to get... Bad teacher. She is also very disorganized!

The manner in which the course was taught, i.e. she doesn't spoon-feed you, seems like a higher numbered course than a one-hundred level. Worst class I've had at KU. Not clear about assignments, lectured 2 times in about a month on test material, spent rest of time explaining how she teaches. Thinks very highly of herself and became condescending to non-political science majors.

She would be an ok professor if she wasn't so arrogant and dogmatic. There was little room for original thought and diversity of opinion. If she disagrees with something you say, she will not hesitate to interrupt you in mid-sentence and clown you in front of the class. Her grading is fair, make sure to write everything down the way she sees it.

Lectures were horrid. The discussion were OK providing the GTA knew what Yap wanted. The tsunami relief event was horrble ($2000 raised, $250 by my group, and there were well over 500 people in the class). Rarely did any person know what exactly she wanted. Even to this day I am getting complaints from the event.

Lectures were at times tough to get through but some you really could get into. If you don't get what is going on in lecture it's ok because discussion is where you learn information for the test. The lecture I found more to be a discussion

Lecture is pointless--it was the same lecture all semester-I barely took notes. Must go to discussion, it is acutally helpful. You have to teach yourself pols by reading the entire book yourself. And the awareness projects sucks and is compeltely pointless.
