Can be nice, but rarely; flies off the handle very easily. Her lectures are hard to listen to as she kind of babbles on with no organization or interest to capture attention.

Francine is unique, she zones in while lecturing and good luck getting a question in, but approach her when she's open and she will fill you in on everything there is to know about a subject, especially where limnology and paleontology intersect. She is nicer than her reputation would indicate, she does not suffer fools very well, so read then ask!

If you show up, pay attention, and take some basic notes you will pass, and doing a little more work (on the labs) will get you a good grade. She loves the subject matter and does genuinely try to get the students to learn about it. Labs are a lot of work, but core to the material and drawn from for the tests.

I have taken 5 different classes from her. If you go to class and pay attention, she will literally give you the answers to test questions over and over. Awesome prof. She also loves what she does and is enthusiastic if you are engaged.

By far the worst Prof I've had in my three years of attending Brock. Her teaching style is not engaging, she doesn't allow for questions even on break or after class. Always tells you that she's busy and she has no time for you. Her ppt slides are all over the place.Exams are extremely hard!

At first I did not like the way she taught but I grew to enjoy her class. Posts all lectures online which was nice, but adds a lot of detail so you do have to go to class. No textbook either.

Repeated multiple times she won't answer q's by email or in person. 4 TAs who were avail once/week but mostly felt like I was on my own. Fortunately, course was for non-science majors, overview of geology, so it was interesting and easy w/ technical details left out. 2nd most repeated statement after "no q's was "..but you don't have to know that"

Prof McCarthy is very knowledgeable, but I sometimes get the impression she is uninterested in teaching or feels that she is teaching below her level and therefore we are not worth her time. She doesn't expand on things very much when you ask her a question and acts like you should just know it all.
