Comment:

Dr. Brister will make you work harder than any professor that you will ever have, but you will also learn more. Participate in class because that matters to him. Also, if he marks off on an exam and you can explain why you marked a different answer, then he will frequently give you the points. Work hard and want to learn, and you will do well.

Comment:

A/O is a lot easier than audiology. 3 long answer tests, but he grades them easily. Don't ask him to repeat himself because he won't remember. Read the book! There's essays due at the beginning of the next class but they're easy. The only thing he really grades are the Yale spellings. Don't yell at him to get your way, he's 79 years old.

This class was a lot easier than Audiology. Make sure you read the book and take notes over each chapter, this is what you should study for your tests. You give a presentation every class which was scary at first, but is actually really easy. Do the work and you will make an A.

Comment:

This was probably the hardest class I have ever taken for Speech Pathology. Dr. Brister's tests are extremely hard, make sure you read the book front and back as well as write down everything he says during lecture. Do the extra credit because it gives you 5 points to your final grade which is awesome. Hardest B I ever got.

Dr. Brister is a funny man!! He says that his tests are tricky but they are very tricky, but as long as you make him see your side for another answer he usually gives back points! DON'T yell at the poor man, a couple of girls got really angry with him but he goes good, he gave 12-25 points back on two tests in summer I

Mr. Brister is a very sweet man outside of the classroom. But his audiology class is killer. Read every chapter, and write down every word from his mouth. Pay attention, and show interest. Be respectful. Many girls yell and argue after his tests. It's amazing that he gives opportunity to get test points back, be thankful. Do extra credit, big file.

Dr. Brister is a great to prepare you for graduate school. With that being said, you will have to work very hard to receive a good grade in the class. BUY THE BOOK! He says he covers a lot of the information in the lecture, but he always adds in a few questions that come straight from the book. If lost, go to office hours, it helped me!

Brister is extremely knowledgeable in the field of audiology. But, he is not the best teacher. The tests are extremely hard! Always record the lectures and listen to them over and over again. Do the extra credit and file (for the file he wont tell you how many articles to do.I suggest at least 15). Always go to class. Good luck!

Tests are unclear and wordy. They are so easy to misunderstand. There are no powerpoints or anything visual. You basically have to write down everything he says and then read the book. But he also says everything in the book is wrong. Basically just try not to fail.

Brister is a happy cute fella but AuralOral was probably the most pointless class. I honestly can say I felt like I learned nothing. All you do is write yale spellings every week, do a couple of papers, and a group presentation. Also, there are two exams, which no one knew how to study for. This class was just boring and a waste of timemoney.

The first thing he told us was that this was a busy work class, and he wasn't kidding. You write Yale spelling stories and chapter summaries almost every week and do group presentations over parts of the chapter in the book. There are two tests. One is all written, one is all multiple choice. I didn't know what to study for either of them.

Nice man but not the best professor. Exams are killer. He leaves you wondering what to study for his exams. Very unclear. Going to class is a must in order to write down what he says in class. I advise you to write down everything that comes out his mouth. Reading the book is pointless because he contradicts what it says the majority of the time.

Best professor I ever had in my entire college career. What are all you people talking about that commented before, sleeping in class or are you just plain dumb. Go to class, take notes, study the material, why are so many of you complaining about having to do this, REALLY, do you want a free pass in life? Study hard and be productive

This class was really tough. He's pretty scatter brained, so it's easy to get confused. There's not powerpoint, so you just have to listen to him and read the book. His tests are pretty difficult with answer choices like "both a and b" or "a, b, and d" so you have to know your stuff. Absolutely do the kit for extra credit. Trust me, you'll need it.

Mr. Brister is a sweet man but his teaching is very confusing and his test are even more confusing. The only way to do well is come everyday, do all assignments correctly, and learn how he words the test questions. You just have to get use to him. Take him for this class because he teaches 472 also.

He is a very sweet man and really knows his stuff, however, you better be prepared to study. If you pay attention in class and take good notes you should be fine. He is a bit scatter brained so you have to really focus. His tests are tricky so watch out. Definitely take this course in the summer.

Dr. Brister is a wonderful guy, he knows his stuff. However, his class is useless, unless you want to be an AuD. He acts like everyone in the class is going to be an AuD and most aren't. If you go to talk to him he doesn't really answere any of your questions. I wish there was another teacher teaching this class however he is the one and only.

He knows his stuff and is very nice however, i learned nothing in his class. though i got a 88 in his class. we had 1 test(final)alot of busy work and taught outselves. It was a waist of time to go to class because you didnt learn anything and focused on yale spelling only.its and easy A but not the best for learning

To do well in this class, record it, he lets you. Because the class is so stressful, listening at home in a peaceful environment helps. If you passionately learn, you'll crack his exams. As for being an accomplished audiologist with lots of publications, good for him he teaches in a place where nobody knows better.

OMG! What a class. The person under me pretty much summed it up. I made a B as well. You can tell he's a NICE guy and is VERY smart in the field but his tests are very tricky! Definitely study any old tests you have and make sure you do the kit and web notebook. HELPS ALOT!
