Now that the reign of Fowler has concluded we can look back on his historical impact through a clear lens. Fowler represents Stony Brook well in a way: you must be prepared to teach yourself and bust your ass if you want to do well. He's not a bad guy, but certainy not an ideal lecturer...long live the king, however.

Fowler is one of the most derange and lost professor I've ever had. He contradicts himself constantly, doesn't grasp the material himself, loses track of what he's doing in the middle of teaching, and best of all he admits to all of it. He's said "I don't know how you kids do it, if I took these tests I'd get all these questions wrong" and he's the one who makes the test. Just do Todd's, pray to whatever deity you believe in, and you should be ok.

He definitely tries his best to teach and is very enthusiastic. On the whole, he is an alright professor. To do well in this class though requires a lot more work than just attending lecture. You need to teach yourself a lot of material with the textbook or get the TAs to teach it to you outside of class time.

he does not teach you anything. just uses clicker qizzes to test you in class without any theory review. They expect you to learn everything on your own from textbook. the only reason to attend class is to receive clicker points. workshops are useless too. The only reason i passed is b/c i studied like crazy at Todd's tutoring. Todd taught me.

He doesn't really teach, he just go through the problems in class. So you have to study urself or go to Todd's to do well. Personally I thought 322 is easier than 321 but it depends since it might vary for everyone.

For those who are not naturally automatic amazing at chemistry then brace yourself because this class is HARD. Professor Fowler is good though and willing to help. Go to class for clicker questions they earn you an extra 120 points if you get clickers and go to recitations. Just study hard, read the book and get help if needed! Fowler is cool!

Class is a glorified workshop; there is NO teaching, just quizzes. And when half the class gets the question wrong, NO explanation is given. Lecture is devoid of material or education. Teaching yourself is the only way to do well. I understand working hard, but I want education I pay for. Fancy slides can't replace a professor's effort to teach.

Easy class, read the book and learn the mechanisms. If you're still confused go to him for help, he's more than willing to help out students. Do the old exams, they're basically identical to what you'll see on the current exams.

This is the hardest I've worked for an A. Ignore those who say this class is easy. That isn't true. Fowler is a very good professor though.

Welcome to College Chemistry where you are meant to learn quick or be weeded out. He is a great teacher, as far as college goes, and takes her time explaining the material, again as far as college goes. Work hard, study harder, kiss ass, come to class, DO PRACTICE EXAMS AND EASY A. EASY A FOR THE SMART PEOPLE.

I would just like to caution you regarding ochem; it is considered the "weed out" class for premed (despite it not being as difficult as ppl make it out to be). This class isn't hard, but may seem to fail in this class since they never study. I got an A because I learned orgo in stuyvesant. P.S Most of the TA's are clueless, don't depend on them.

This class is not bad, not very hard to get an A. The only people who complain about this class are a) Never study and think they can do well, b) People who party every day and think that pulling an all nigher is good will get an A (These people get the C lmao), and c) Dumb people. Like many people said before this class is easy in terms of work.

Im not sure if Fowler is a poor professor or just lazy at this point, he's been teaching orgo here forever. Of course orgos challenging but they make it more challengin by being ambiguous with exam material and asks kids clicker questions instead of teachin; Go to todds and do well on the final; grading is kind if youre finals better than your avg

Really easy class, I was getting raped by my low midterms grades, but then I pulled an A on the final. My grade went from B- to A. I'm so happy. Amazing teacher, with very nice grading. I got an A and so can you. This guy is very nice during office hours.

Stony Brook's organic chemistry course is one of the hardest in NY state. If you are the guy who tends to learn most of the stuff from lecture then this is ABSOLUTELY NOT THE CLASS FOR YOU. If you are willing to read like a maniac and truly understand the mechansims behind the concepts then take this class. Otherwiese PASS IT.

Awesome and enthusiastic teacher. Class isn't boring due to nearly constant clicker questions. He uses very very little time to actually lecture, which means you have to learn the info in other ways. Exams are somewhat unfair in my opinion due to random hard questions from class showing up on the test instead of the main points.
