classes can be boring, but he brings up really good points. a lot of reading but if you pay attention in class you don't really need to do the readings. he really isn't interested in what you think about a book though, so if you just use what he says in class on your papers then you're good.

Best professor I've ever had. I took that class about 10 years ago, failed because I slept through the final and still reread some of the books to this day. He's the reason I've read everything by Iris Murdoch. Who cares about grades...this guy turned me onto some amazing lit.

Sometimes Madden was boring but generally I enjoyed his class. I, however, am an English geek. I love analyzing lit, if you dont, dont take this class. He is a hard grader on papers sometimes, bus soon I was finding that I had improved myself to a B+/A on his standards. Note grades are an easy A and taking notes helps keep u awake :)

I did not like Prof. Madden at all. He grades way to hard, grades notes which counts for to much of the final grade, he mumbles and stumbles over words. On the plus side he assigns 5 paper and you only have to complete 2.

Fred's a supercool dude with a ****in hunchback.You know he sits in his office delinquently smoking a pipe,solving ancient enigmas of literature.We still talk about Severed Head & Magus.He plays basketball at open gym.I hear he wears a sweatband so as to tame his unruly neointellectual'do.

I love this guy! He's subtly witty and funny, plus the ideas he talks about are always new to me--even tho I had read and analyzed everything in this class while I was in high school. The class isn't difficult, he gives lots of oppurtunities to get good grafes. Over all, he's an awesome guy.

Nice guy, only took one class with him but enjoyed it...seems like he smoked a lot of grass in his day. Enjoyed what we read in class. He's worth taking at least one class with.

I loved him. He had very interesting ideas that were mind-expanding. The White Hotel and A Severed Head rocked my world. He knows what he's talking about, and he's open to revisions on papers.
