Scriptwriting is an abysmal experience with Fred. His class lacks structure, organization, and half the time you're teaching yourself the material, because he just points at things on his computer in class and says, "Got it?" His feedback is anything but helpful, and then you're on to a new assignment you don't grasp. Avoid taking him if you can.

Fred Owens' teaching style is by far the most frustrating and unorganized that I have ever come into contact with. Assignments are given, graded, and then broadcasted to the entire class marked up with your mistakes for all to see. Belittling feedback given more often than constrictive criticism. Good luck

Oh my gosh, worst teacher on the planet. He has no structure whatsoever and the way he grades makes no sense. He tells you a week before that you're having a test on 6 chapters. He is super unhelpful and super judgmental. Every script you write, he will hate. And he publicly tells you how bad you suck in front of the entire class. GOOD LUCK.

Worst professor I've had in my fifteen years of schooling. No organization, no structure, and his tests are nowhere near his "lectures," if you want to call them that. AVOID Owens at all costs, his teaching style is no help whatsoever and you'll be lucky for a passing grade. I studied like crazy for his class and still for a C. Beware.

Fred is a great guy, I don't know why people have given him poor ratings. I took his class in the summer, and he was nothing but helpful. Gives you the opportunity to redo speeches if you're not happy with your grade. There's no chance you will get lower than an A if you do what he asks.

Good guy. Enjoys talking a bit too much, but that is ok sometimes. Class is a bit boring, but you learn how to speak correctly. He is very critical the first speech, but will give you a better grade the second time you go. TAKE WITH HIM.

worst class i have ever taken. when he "evaluated"students after there speeches, seemed more like he was belittling them as opposed to genuinely helping them out. gave poor instructions, and wasnt clear what he wanted. fairly mean, and full of himself. he tried to dispute well known facts because he didnt agree with them. DO NOT TAKE WITH HIM

Dr. Owens is one of the most knowledgable professors I've met at YSU. The lower divisional courses are intentionally tough to force people out of the major, b/c Tcom is a major you shouldn't do if you aren't serious about it. I got an A on every one of his tests b/c I worked hard, payed attention, and have a real passion for Telecommunications.

He is a very nice man, knowledgeable. But his Tcom technologies class is very hard. He uses websites(hundreds of them) Very hard to figure out what you need to know for the tests. I got a B, and don't know how, i basically bullcrapped my way thru it. Never saw my tests.

Fred Owens is probably the worst teacher I've had. He uses those damn websites to teach and when you go to him for help he says "Go to the website and find it yourself" His tests are about NOTHING that he talks about in class. I had to take this class twice and it sucked!!!
