Comment:
History of Ancient and Medieval Philosophy includes some very difficult reading materials. However, what you learn is vast. Never had a class like it, but very glad to have experienced it. Stay off devices and listen carefully, DO NOT interrupt and ALWAYS read, even if you don't understand it, you will. Your grade is dependant on only 3 papers.

This guy is fantastic! One of the best classes I have ever taken, and not because it was easy or that he lets you eat and talk all class, but because he cares about the topic and the class was small. Half the class dropped after the first week, which was awesome because only people who cared were left. No tests or quizzes too.

Fred's class isn't easy, but in a good way. If it was easy, everyone would do it. Fred's intention is to teach students how to think more critically, communicate more clearly, and write more effectively than they have ever done before. If you do the work, each of his goals will be met.

Comment:
Aquino and Dr. Morris co-taught "Philosophy, Religion & Science," and the class was interesting, challenging, and relevant. Had several guest lecturers from different areas of scholarship (psychology, biology, computer programming/AI). Informative and relevant. NOT a class on Christian apologetics by any stretch.

Comment:
Had him for Ethics (grad) and Philosophy of Religion (undergrad). Sharp and fun. Weakness is he enjoys a good fight a little too much, so think twice if you get your feelings hurt easily before getting involved in discussions in his class, they can get heated. Very open-minded person.

Comment:
I would recommend this course--if it is ever offered again--to philosophy minors, or to science or religion majors who intend to pursue grad school. Aquino selected good readings from the relevant contemporary literature and led discussions that remained on topic at least 75% of the time (I consider this a good content/entertainment ratio). Epistemology is relevant to life, despite its alleged technicality: it reminds me to ask questions about how I know what I claim to know, which I often find humbling.

Fred is an intelligent and caring professor, both in religion and philosophy. However, he can get himself talking in circles, and can speak in convoluted and confusing sentences, even by philosophy standards. Knows his church stuff, knows epistemology.
