If you are new to chemistry, definitely take this course with Ochs! He tries to make everything in class relate back to real life situations. There is homework 2-3 times a week, but as time goes on, it is about once a week. Homework usually takes over an hour to complete, but read the book! You WILL need to study for tests, but great intro course!

I LOVE MR OCHS! Best prof I've ever had and is the reason I changed my major to Ecology. Will be taking summer classes at Kwood just so I can have him as a professor again. 10/10 definitely recommend!

Fred was a great teacher! He was early and open to questions. His lectures were very well thought out. Beware, he does not allow note taking on computers since being able to discuss with classmates on material is a large part of the class. Only one 10 pt extra credit opportunity. Normally one or two homework assignments per week.

Professor Ochs has got this teaching thing down - he is the most organized professor I've ever had, and he is extremely on point when covering material. He makes expectations very clear, and loves to make lectures relevant and interesting as well. I wish he taught more classes so I could take all of them. First time I've ever loved chemistry!

Prof Ochs has the unique ability to make complex material understandable. Gen chem 2 over the summer packed about 16 weeks into 6. Between class, labs, homework and studying, you wont have time for much else. I wish his class was longer because he is a phenomenal instructor! Extremely smart, witty and hilarious! Highly recommended!

Great teacher! He had an interesting class about the environment & I even enjoyed learning about all the things, even dirt, haha. He had a bright personality, will lay the law down, clearly interested in hearing what the students have to say. He's super nice. Even though I got a B, science is my hardest subject anyway. If you get the chance to take Fred Ochs for any class, do it. He is funny, helpful, and makes a not-so-fun topic fun. He is always willing to help, or explains something in more detail if needed. Tests and quizzes are hard, all the information is there, its just a matter of studying it. I would recommend him to a friend.

BEST TEACHER AT KIRKWOOD! I loved Mr. Ochs, he's actually the reason I changed my major to science. I recommend him for any of his classes because he's very knowledgeable plus he's very interested in what he has to teach. I always say he looks and sounds like Eric Forman, but older, and has the enthusiasm of Bill Nye the science guy!

One of the best teachers Ive ever had. Makes you participate in class, amazing humor, and makes otherwise boring information worth it. Plan on working on quizzes/EA's often, but if you take notes they're not too brutal. Great guy doing something you can tell he loves.

Another Great asset to Kirkwood's staff. Cares about you learning, will gladly help and is happy doing so. If You put in the effort, attend class you will pass. The lectures are so well organized/done, you will retain so much information. Lots of short assignments 1 every week(4 reports),but that is a sign of someone who cares that you learn.

Took a summer, 6 week version. Materials not terrible, but the pace is quick. Harder grader than other chem profs, stickier on grading/details. Very good lecturer, will work with you as much as you need during office hours. Be prepared to stay within his rules, tests are bit confusing compared to how material is presented in lecture.

Absolutely enjoyed this instructor. Found out 3 weeks into the course that I didn't need the class, but opted to remain because he made the information so enjoyable. He is an excellent instructor and does everything he can to help you learn the information!
