He is very approachable, even willing to meet me beside office hours. But he sometimes speaks in a very low volume and makes it really difficult to hear. He is very knowledgeable but he gave out large amount of information in no particular order, which is sometimes annoying.

The most boring class I have ever take in my life. Just read the book and its clearer than classes. As an international student, nowing all the stuff he talks about, but still don't get good grades for not writing enough pages for the test essays (got all the points though). Will never take PSC, since aparently I am not suitable for this subject.

I had a relatively easy time, because I had taken Comp. Pol. at another school and was already familiar with most of what was discussed, but as long as you keep up with the reading and go to class, it shouldn't be hard to at least get a solid B. He's not the most charismatic or engaging speaker, but he is friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

VERY CLEAR AND KNOWLEDGEABLE PROFESSOR.I never opened the book and just attended lectures & took notes and received a great grade. His lectures are superb and require attention. His TAs are okay at summarizing but the Powell has superior teaching methods. His knowledge shines through the class.

Lectures were hard to understand at times, due to clarity issues and volume. T.A.'s are helpful. The tests were a lot easier than I expected. Reading the book seemed to help a lot of people. It's more about concepts than facts which is nice.

I didn't enjoy the PSC101 class. We went over 4 countries--U.S., UK, Russia, and Germany, and I felt like the class and recitation were dry and not very interesting. The class focused more on how policies differed in other countries as opposed to a discussion of varying views on how a country should be governed. I wish class was more interesting.

Powell is a great guy, really loves political science and democracy. He's hard to hear though because he speaks so quietly, but what he does say is wicked important. It's almost impossible to get an A, the TAs are vicious. Great guy though, remembered who I was even after the course was over. I'd definitely take his class again. (DO THE READING!!)

Same opinion as everyone else basically. Really friendly guy. Class wasn't too difficult. Some lectures pretty boring. I suggest going to class. Its not enough just copying down the lecture outlines.

Not an incredibly interesting class, but he's pretty awesome. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Minimal grades in the class, and his TA's grade the exams pretty hard (albeit not well). But it was definitely worth taking.

He's a very good professor but he reminds me of harry caray (the famed cubs announcer) a little bit. In my mind this is an added bonus. CUBS WIN!!! CUBS WIN!!!

Lectures are sometimes bland, but he is extremely well-prepared, approachable, helpful, and informative. Uses overhead for lecture-objectives, allows class to vote on countries to study, made midterm 2 & final paper both optional - extra weight on final. Tough grader but very fair. Very solid prof.
