Lecture for Chem 125 lab with this guy is useless. He literally never came to class and had guests or the GSIs do it. All he talks about is his lab and how amazing his research is. USELESS

His lectures were incomprehensible ramblings about whatever he felt like that never had a connection to the labs that were being done at the time. For example: first unit was spectroscopy but he decided to lecture on vacuum (his research) first and then did one lecture on spectroscopy AFTER THE LABS WERE DUE!! AVOID

Comment:

Somorjai is better than Lester, but still a mediocre teacher. He does everything from Powerpoint and talks about applications of quantum mechanics, so the class can be boring at times. Naturally, the book is useless at this point, so make sure to share notes with classmates. Btw, he only lectures to the front two rows.

I've had Somorjai for Chem 105, as well. He turned 120A into more of a lab applications class, which was extremely disappointing, and boring, because we learned very little quantum chemistry from him. His tests are difficult to study for because the material is so random. I hope I never have him again.

He didn't actually do much during this class. He's motivated to get us to research. Hence this class. When he does talk though, he often times repeats himself as he talks in a soothing, monotonous voice. This can put almost anyone to sleep. From what I've seen, he's pretty boring.
