She really wants you to understand and form your own thoughts about the material. I really loved her class because we were able to share ideas and theories rather than just regurgitate material for exams. She is very passionate about her work which really shines through in the class.

She is very sweet and an easy grader. Make sure you do the weekly blackboard posts. The journal assignment is short and essay. The final paper is kind of long but manageable. Overall, a good class. Even better if you are passionate about immigration (but you don't have to be).

Professor Lahav is really great. I don't know why her reviews are so low. She is interesting and really good at communicating information. Strongly recommend.

This class had the potential to be good but the prof. ruined it. She was very unorganized and although she's knowledgeable and was able to weave her own research into lecture she simply says that same things over and over again and you end up actually learning very little. She also pushes her political ideology on you big time. Don't take!!!

She's a very kind professor if you show just a little interest and participate in the discussions. Gives opportunity for group work and extra credit. Tests are kind of difficult but she will help you out if you work with her.

Awesome professor... lectures are a little boring but she is so passionate about the topics that make up for it. Very big on effort, and big on attendance. If you pay attention, and show effort you will pass. By far my favorite professor at SBU.

Proffesor Lahav is one of the best teachers I have ever met. She is well traveled, extremely intelligent and also consistent. She is a true gem at Stony Brook University and has persuaded me into switching my major through her amazing class. Her views on immigration and politics in general are always backed and you leave class feeling accomplished.

Professor Lahav is one of the best professors! She speaks very clearly and takes a long time getting through the slides because she wants you to really understand the material. She is very nice and has a good sense of humor. She cares a lot and is very passionate... TAKE HER CLASS!

An intelligent academic, a good professor, but a mediocre lecturer. Professor Lahav has an abundance of knowledge to share with those who are interested and passionate, but she is weak in its conveyance. However, if you get past this and establish a rapport with her, her class turns out to be quite an experience.

is you arent a polsci major, turn the other way and RUN. she assigns way too much reading every week for students who are preoccupied with more important classes. assignments every week, participation required, i hate it. i look forward to this class the LEAST the days i have it. if you are a polsci major, shes not that bad.. lot of reading though.

I've taken every class Professor Lahav offers (103, 310, 309, 392) so I think I know the deal pretty well. Very genuinely nice and sweet lady. She WANTS to know your names. She also knows her stuff, but can be a little disorganized at times. Honestly, it kinda grew on me and I would definitely take her again. She has been a dear mentor, as well.

Oh boy... I don't want to be too mean so I'll start with the positives: She is nice, has a sense of humor, and does have a pretty easy grading system. However. Her lectures leave more to be desired as it's very difficult to get anything from them and her assigned "group project" is a joke. I wouldn't advise taking her section if others are open.

Hands down one of my most memorable teachers. I not only took almost all her classes (by choice) but adore her and her work. If you take your education seriously and are an engaging student, than take her classes, you will not only learn a ton but have a good reference if you need one. an A++++ teacher!

One word: unorganized. She rambles through her lectures, uses power points that don't tie in with her lectures or the reading. She requires a bunch of expensive textbooks, but hardly uses them. She doesn't know how to consolidate the material to make it learnable. In the end, everyone is confused about assignments, instructions, and exams. Bad!

If you're a poli sci major and you aren't a bumbling idiot, her classes are pretty easy. I don't understand why people don't like the lectures, yes she goes on and on, but she's one of the few teachers who goes out her way to learn all your names, and tries to engage everyone. Her grading is really easy too
