Comment:
Prof. Pauley is likable guy. He cracks jokes during class and it laid back, but his class is definitely challenging. You cannot do anything last minute and expect a decent grade. He focuses especially on purpose statements and thesis statements, and if you do not choose/write down exactly what is on his mind you will feel dumb. Learned a lot tho

Pauley's classes are tough if you want an A. However, he is dedicated to your learning (which means is totally willing to answer questions and meet outside of class), and, while I never got better than a B in any of my speeches, I genuinely felt like I learned a lot by the end of the semester.

I like Pauley... on some days. He expects students to make his work a priority and staple their papers. He's nitpicky and it's hard to improve. I sometimes like the challenge--he once gave me an A and I felt on top of the world. A theory: He's naturally mean but manages it well (usually). Don't complain, just ask for help. #GarthVaderStrikesBack

He is amazing and his sense of humor is present in his teaching. He is great at discerning what is worth knowing and what can be passed up as unimportant details. Teaches important life skills that are not only useful in school but in life as well.

A very polarizing professor, and he wasn't really for me. If you're looking for a guy who really knows his stuff, though, Pauley will come through. But I found him to be pretty arrogant, a little unfair and tough to sit through 75-minute classes with

Pauley is the best prof I have had at Calvin, hands down. He is challenging, yes, but his insightful thinking and great sense of humor are irreplaceable! Get him if you can! Just do the readings/work and you will be fine in the class. Anytime there is a stressful situation, he is MORE THAN WILLING to talk it out with the class. You will learn a ton

I am nearing the end of my undergraduate degree, and going back through and rating professors. Pauley is, by far, the worst out of the dozens I've had. He is extremely arrogant, condescending and rude to his students. It is his belief that the current generation is stupid and lazy, and that by assigning too much work he can improve them. Nop

Honestly I think this teacher is an extremely hard grader. He does want to give help to his students, but he doesn't make himself very approachable. He tends to send strong and mean emails to his students and treats his students as graduate students. If i had to choose I would never pick Garth againQuizzes every week and there is a lot of reading.

Great professor. Challenging class, but in a good way. The content of the class is not merely handed 2 u, U have 2 dig in yourself, which is, again, a good thing. The class teaches necessary skills instead of mere info. Fair grader-u have 2 know the content. Those who get bad grades are those who don't engage. help is available 4 those who need it

Nice guy. Wants to help you learn. But is a little vague on what topics to choose for a paper or project. Uses some confusing words at times. Has a good sense of humor. Be prepared for those quizzes!

Professor Garth is a very hard professor. He grades his papers extremely hard and expects 300 hundred work from 100 hundred level class. His quizzes after each reading are really difficult even if you read the readings. Don't expect to receive a perfect score. Sometimes Professor Garth appears to be very mean, but I think that he does want to help

he's a good guy and really knows his stuff but for some reason has a hard time making his students understand. Class consists of discussion of LONG readings followed by a short quiz about each reading which is hard to ever get a perfect score on. You also have a few papers (HARD grader) and a speech..advice: don't get him if you can help it. :(

He was a decent prof. He was willing to give you the help you needed if you came to him. Also, most people seem to think he was extremely hard, but I think those are the people that wanted to slide through his class without much work. He gives you work, but is fairly nice when it comes to grading.

Frustrating, frustrating, frustrating! NEVER take his communication course. The reading is extremely dry and boring, class discussion is all but pointless, and his paper grading skills are extremely subjective. Biggest waste of my time and energy.
