Comment:
DON'T take this class from Gary Brown if you can avoid it. He ruined my interest in programming and made me dread having to take future programming classes. I almost went to another school just to avoid him for future programming classes. He is bad with communication and is somewhat degrading/vindictive if you question him or his techniques at all.

He seems to be the typical computer professor that you have to already be a programming expert to survive the class. Sure he has a great sense of humor and is fun socially, but as far as his teaching methods go, he is very confusing.

A quality individual who teaches because he loves the subject. I don't think he teaches any other classes or does it for the money. Very helpful if you see him in lab or office hours. If you don't go to lab or office hours, the class is much harder. I never saw those who dropped out or were hurting in the lab. Go to lab and he will help you.

he's a good guy. He tries to get the info accross and usualy does a good job. His slides are accually his summarys of what the book says and can be very helpful. Another cool thing is he gives everyone the pool of questions he draws from to make the test so as long as you know all of them and do most your labs you got an A in the class.

Gary is a nice guy, and will go through great lengths to help you *if* you ask for it. It's a hard class, and will require time spent with the instructor outside of the class hours. Once you understand this, the class isn't so bad.

If you're interested in learning the subject, or enjoy C++, don't take his class. He will kill it. His lecture is a slideshow of screenshots of pages from the book (i'm not kidding). He'll put a page of code on there for about 30 seconds, expect you to learn how all the stuff works, and then move on

For the subject he is teaching, he isn't doing a bad job. But each lecture was boring. Turn in dates for labs are very liberal, and he gives you a lot of questions to practice with before you take the test. Most of those questions will be on the test.
