An outstanding professor! Cook was first-rate in the three philosophy classes I took, and he gave excellent, typed-up commentary on all my papers (returned amazingly fast). It is only too bad that I did not manage to take more courses from him - that is one of my biggest regrets when I graduated from Beloit College.

Took his course 23 years ago! Loved every minute of it. Was my go to person for everything. Very friendly and supportive. Invited our class to his house a few times. Became a professor, in part, because of him!

Gary is great! Beloit College should be proud to have had a professor like him. He made the Beloit experience a treasure.

Gary Cook . . . wow . . . it's been almost 20 years, but I remember him as one of the best at Beloit College. I say this because he cared about you, his lectures were crystal clear, and his sense of humor was a riot. Thank you, Gary. You really made a difference.

A very good teacher, although not as inspirational as some other teachers at Beloit. He has a good sense of humor, and he is "clear and distinct" as one of the philosophers he lectured on said the ideas should be (I think Descartes?). In the main, clarity is rare in his field of study.

I don't understand the boring comments. Gary could be a rough grader, yes, but only in that he made you EARN an A (and I actually did manage a few from him, including overall for a semester). Majors love him; the casual philosophy student just can't keep up.

Gary's lecturing and sense of humor is dry. Take some coffee, you'll get a lot out of his classes. He explains complex concepts very clearly. He doesn't hand out A's, but he's very fair. He still works hard to prep classes he's been teaching for years.

I think maybe only two people in that class were able to stay awake during Gary's lectures. I had friends who said he was a great guy once you got to know him, but as a professor I thought he certainly left something to be desired.

I think he presents the material very well. It's just hard to get a perfect grade, it seems like he doesn't like giving above a B.
