I really had to work hard in this class and he didnt make things easy to understand for someone new to the topic. I also normally struggle in math and it didnt help that he didnt seem interested in giving advice or assistance on problems.

Gary is great. His humor is enlightening and he is not the most sensitive teacher but he gives you the tools you need to get a good grade in the class. It is just your job to decide whether you will work hard at it!

Decent class. He's an odd duck but a good lecturer and tries to help you out with the grading of tests. Decent amount of homework but nothing too much. Can be quite funny.

As someone who has never struggled in math before, this changed it all. I struggled so much in his calculus class and I would never recommend a class with him. Im not in favor of teachers who try to make their students learn things on their own one. I paid money for a class that I had to teach myself.

People give him a bad rap because they interpret his abrasiveness for arrogance. Mr. Kersting is a genius of a math professor and knows what he's teach inside and out. He will explain what you need explained if you ask him to. He expects a lot out of his students so as to bring out the best in them. Highly recommend his class.

Mr. Kersting has not helped me at all during this class. I generally do well in school and this class is the first one I have take where I am concerned about passing. He is arrogant and when the top test grade was a 75 in the class he blamed us instead of himself. His class is generally broad and has no direction. Do not take his class.

Mr. Kersting is a very difficult person to learn from. Class is directed at whys and not hows. I would only take his class as a math-oriented individual (which I am not). Neglects to understand what other types of learners need.

Best teacher I've had. He's an absolute genius, and some students do struggle, but he makes you put in lots of work to earn your grade. He writes his own tests, and the questions on them teach very useful problem solving and critical thinking skills.

Gary is very smart and knows his stuff. but you must learn it on your own and ask questions. He comes off as arrogant and does not teach or require you to do homework. I think a person would do fine in this class if they are naturally good at math, otherwise do not waste your time.

Gary is a great professor. You have to set out to not try at all, to fail his class. Granted he does kind of makes you go at it alone. He will work with you though, and answer any questions. If need more hands on probably shouldn't take hybrid course.

I absolutely loved this class!!! I don't see how other guys were complaining about the tests since he allowed us to take tests home and work on it with other students. Anyways, I loved the class and it was probably the only math class I have ever enjoyed!

did this class over summer as ind study. All up to me but made himself totally available for help. Wonderful teacher who took the time to make sure you understand. He has no interest in students who want to be handed a good grade. more than generous with 'effort pts' on exams. go to class, ask Q's and you should have an easy A

Although I barely passed calc I and failed Calc II with him, I learned so much in his class. I always hated going, especially at 745 in the morning, but the things I learned in that class made everything in my future classes so much easier. Hes a tough prof, but not impossible. Although its not graded, do the homework. Thats why I failed.

I was always a student who liked math and was looking forward to taking Calc. And I though that at the beginning of class that he was going to be a really cool teacher, but he doesn't teach, he expects you to teach yourself and puts things that he never covered on his test. Only one person passed his first test and they just barely passed.

Very Great Guy. Took the class while I was home for the summer, it went better then when I tried to take it during the regular year. The only people who had problems seemed to be the people who never came to class. If I had the chance I would take a class with him again!

I agree, he knows it but can't teach it.I had a 3.9 grade point average going in with As in my algebra classes and enjoy math, I ended up dropping the class.He uses his own book and it doesn't follow what you need to know sequentially.Sorry, Gary, you are a nice guy but there is a reason why 1/3 to 1/2 of your students are dropping the classes.

I thought that Mr. Kersting was pretty awesome. He actually makes it fun and interesting, not to mention the fact that he's very fair in grading and tests. I plan on taking all other math courses with this man for the next two years, he's worth it.
