One of the best if not THE best professor in the Chemistry Dept at MC. Cares about students progress, always available, creative and makes his own material (worksheets, hw, etc.). You always know what to expect on exams. Show up and do all the worksheets and theres no reason you won't ace the class.

Had him for Chem 1 and Chem 2. A great teacher, yet makes you work for the class. Gives tons of worksheets and helpful. The SI sessions are sooooo helpful. The course is tough yet can be managed. I regret not studying harder because Kolks really helped when you needed it.

Great teacher but you need to pay attention!! He doesn't really give out homework and if he does it's not checked. But it is great practice and everything is in the book. He only teaches things that will be on the test and gives out lots of worksheets for you to work off of and what will be on the next exam. Overall great course just hard work!

Best Professor at Manhattan College without a doubt. Nice, caring, and the class was pretty straight forward. Not necessarily an easy A, but still easy if you pay attention and study. Also, he stopped taking attendance midway through the semester so that was nice.

He goes over everything you need to know. He is at the top of his department, he even wrote the Chem Lab Manual. Class can get boring because he is talking at you. He does try to engage everyone in the class discussion. No homework. What ever he goes over in class is on the test. Nice guy. I have him again next semester. Pay attention in class.

Tests are extremely easy and he tells you the exact kind of questions and what's going to be on it. However, if there are definitions, you must write it exactly as the textbook says it. Explains everything very well and is always willing to help.

Dr. Kolks is one of my favorite professors at Manhattan so far. He always let's the course material required for tests known weeks before an exam and covers the material studied on your own time as review. Doesn't assign HW, which I would have preferred (forces you to study in a sense). Has a great sense of humor and keeps it interesting.

he skips the bs that we don't really need & instead of using the book, he gives worksheets that have info and problems that you can use to study. the tests are based off of the worksheets and the tests aren't that hard. if you're a science major or engineer who isn't fond of chem, TAKE kolks. i love his class & i'm taking him for 102 next semester.

Professor Kolks is a great teacher. I took AP chem in high school and for the few topics I struggled with he explained them perfectly. Ignore other post about hime being a bad teacher, if you're a good student, he's an excellent teacher. In fact I also registered for chem 102 with him. Great teacher, very understanding and helpful.

Not the best teacher in the world, but not the worst. You will learn more by going for extra help outside of class time. Exams require a lot of studying.

Horrible. Unclear. Does not use text book. All tests multiple choice. No partial credit. Does not take time after class to help students. Goes completely off topic in class about his own personal OCD like problems. One of the worst profs at Manhattan College. DO NOT TAKE!!!

As of now, I cannot be sure. After this first test, I'll be able to say more about it. He appears very down to earth, but I can't help but feel that the impending test will be weird. Tends to avoid answering extensive questions during the lecture. Ask your questions. Let no gossipy jerk stop you, whispers or not. Make sure you know your stuff, test

Only take this man if you really love chemistry. He takes off points on tests for absolutely no reason and gives you no explanation as to why you get answers wrong. Yes, his classes are clear but then you can fail the test anyway with his **** grading. Ignore the rest of these posts, my high school chem teacher was a million times better
