Comment:
I don't recommend this course. There are so many topics that we barely glazed the surface; I left knowing barely more than I started with. Marking is tough and the lectures were boring. The only interesting lectures were given by guest speakers. It is frustrating when you gain so little from a course yet it takes so much effort to get a decent mark

What a great prof- i've really enjoyed learning from him. I feel like he helps us learn how to process, understand and apply theory. Its not a class about memorization- so don't expect to get great marks by cramming. Just learn your stuff and you'll appreciate his style.

He is an excellent prof- challenging for sure, but I think he helps us to actually learn, as opposed to just spoon-feeding information. Some of the comments really reflect the students who don't know how to study or lean- and won't do well in the real world....whereas VanLoon teaches us in a way to get us to actually think.

exams were unfairly marked, assignments were hardly relevant to the course, and classes were so boring, he rarely taught, so many guest lecturers that were unclear, repetitive and boring. course reader was also very repetitive.

Comment:
The lecture notes are so unorganized, it seems random each class. I actually learned nothing this term that wasn't common sense to anyone who has taken h.s. organic chem. Extra material sucks big time too; the answers have barely any of the calculations, its annoying when you try to learn but can't.

Excellent. He purposely makes mistakes on the board so you can catch them and learn to avoid the same problems on tests.

Prof. vanLoon doesn't seem to have taught much before this year; he was late with basic things like problem answers and his tests were not that well designed. But he does seem to care about his stuff and it is pretty interesting if you read his notes.

This prof did NOT screw up just ONCE, but MANY TIMES fyi. ANYWAY, he is not a very helpful prof when it comes to the material. A nice guy, but his notes and teaching methods need revision. His questions on exams were NOT related to notes, but to the text

He's okay at teaching, the problem was he talked alot of theory, but then put a lot of questions on the the mid-term that had nothing to do with theory. Did more examples in class as the year wemt on
