By far the best prof I've had at Pitt. She makes you work hard, but by the end of the semester you will be thanking her because you will be able to see exactly how much you have improved. She is funny, very approachable, and cares deeply about her students. She made me interested in writing again. Take anything you can with her!

Geeta taught me more in Advanced Fiction than in intro and intermediate combined. It's unfortunate that they took the class off the major, but still try to take Geeta for anything you can! She's gives rough criticism but it is ultimately for your own benefit. If you're serious about becoming a better writer, there's no better professor for the job

Take Geeta if you actually want to improve your writing. She has a lot of personal experience/life lessons to share. She gives helpful, honest criticisms. She truly cares about improving your ability to write. It was a lot of work, but I learned so much and it was worth the effort. She is a wonderful mentor.

Advanced Fiction: Hands down the best writing professor I've had at Pitt. Indispensably brilliant and extraordinarily helpful AND honest. Will tell you what doesn't work and forces you to do the hard work. The work load is huge, but it's worth it.

I respect this professor: Geeta lacks the pretentiousness of Jeff Martin yet has quadruple his intelligence. Obviously interested in the progress of her students and their interest in writing. This professor deserves praise for inspiring students and being easily approachable. Thank you Geeta for teaching here at Pitt.

Simply put, a great teacher. No frills, no pretention. Criticism is strong but constructive. One of those rare profs who will stimulate and challenge you without being overzealous. Taking her again next semester; I can't wait.

IF this weren't my last semester at Pitt, I would be looking to take Geeta for other classes. She's the editor for the Kenyon review and is very helpful for giving you a publisher's perspective on your work Doesn't waste your time and will tell you why your work sucks and won't be published - this is very helpful and shows you what need to change

Nice and laid-back--if you want a good, solid professor, who teaches well but not brilliantly, try her. Not absurdly easy, but not horribly difficult, either. Is fair with grading. I liked all the course materials. I plan to take another course with her!

You will write a lot and learn a good deal from her. But everything will be channeled through her narrow perspective, both your stories and the stories you read. She is great for polishing your writing and fine-tuning your approach, just don't let her dry you out.

This professor used our class as an "experiment"; we read only books from the "Oprah Book Club", as well as "Oprah Magazine." WASTE OF TIME. I did not appreciate being a guinea pig. The books were terrible Lifetime-movie knockoffs, yet we had to "discuss" them like classic literature. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROFESSOR. She'll waste your time.

She makes you think outside the box, outside the story. She'll only put up with so much crap, so don't even try the "pity me" excuses why your story is late. I think she's the best writing instructor I had.
