Comment:

He is such a nice man and really cares for students. It can be easy to slack off as he doesn't push very hard. Can be difficult if you do not understand something. Students with little background in theory struggle and he has trouble explaining to them. However he is most helpful outside of class and considers that effort when grading.

Took his intro course on music theory with hopes of getting an easy A and came out of it wondering why I even bothered. If you don't have a solid music background I recommend finding someone, anyone in his class or outside of it with music experience to explain the concepts to you as they will do a better job than he will. The final hurt my soul.

Dr. Anderson may come off as a bit stand offish at first and yes he does tend to like students that are skilled but he is a good person at heart and he would never let a student suffer. Doc A is one of the most leniant proffs I have had. He allows you to turn things in at your own speed and is more than willing to do what ever he can to help.

He may be as gifted as Mozart, but probably the coldest and least interesting professor I met at Richmond. He seemed to severely favoritize students that were skilled, and marginalize (and sometimes publicly redicule) those that were not. Got a major chip on his shoulder...

I graduated 3 years ago and I still keep in touch with Doc. He had these great expressions like the one about the woodchuck. And he always told the worst music jokes ever like Sam Frank's Disco. He had a way of taking the mundane topic of elementary music theory and engaging the students. To those of you who complain about him as your Core Prof, all I can say is it would have been a whole lot worse if you'd had an English or Philosophy Prof.

One of the best classes I've taken so far. Very knowledgable man, great teacher, definitely a character. Very tough grader, hardly ever gives back perfect papers. Tends to favor fine arts majors. Sondheim class highly recommended, especially if you love musical theater.
