One of the BEST PROF. He is a nice guy if you are nice to him. Just follow his rules, and you will be fine. There is a quiz every Monday from the book's chapter. He gives description, and you need to write the name of movie. 2 exams. Questions are from the movies, lectures and the book. One research paper on any movie. FUN CLASS!!

If you don't go to class, then you won't do well. But he is SUPER easy as long as you study for Monday quizzes (title of a movie from the readings) and there's 1 midterm (3 essay), 1 7pg research paper (movie analysis of your choice) and a final (3 essay). TAKE HIM to fulfill the Arts CORE.

he is strict in the classroom just show up and keep your mouth shut and you'll be fine easy quizzes and tests if you read and take notes plus you watch awesome films every week all semester. one of the best classes i've taken at loyola the man definitely knows what he is talking about

This class is extremely easy. Just read and look over the chapter before the quiz and you're fine. Paper and tests are easy. This being said, this professor is the meanest and rudest teacher I have had. He conducts class as if students are 5 years old. Great for art credit and GPA booster but he is a jerk. I am not simple minded.

Father Phillips is an institution at Loyola. Although easily misunderstood by simple minded people, and by people not used to rules and somewhat rigid etiquette of conduct, he is truly a dedicated educator, he cares too much, and nobody can hold that against him. Highly recommended.

I don't understand what this professor is doing at Loyola. He knows so much about film history, often because he was around for it. With him it's not "Kubrick said this..." it's "my old friend, Stanley Kubrick, told me..." He's a stickler for etiquette, but it's not a difficult class.

horrible horrible horrible. the assignments themselves are relatively easy, but the man is a nazi on rules and in the classroom. has no problem spending an entire period reasserting his authority if somebody so much as sneezes. he himself called me a liar and accused me of all sorts of falsehoods (although i got an A). TAKE NOTES. be warned.

The most disrepectful and meanest professor I've encountered. I've always gotten along with my professors and he called me a liar and told me to stop smiling because it "bothered him." Yells at people, even when you are doing well and are respectful to him (not just me). Only likes boys. Be seen and not heard, ladies. A very unprofessional man.

I do not know why people complai about Father Phillips -- he is an awesome professor. He is, without a doubt, the best professor I had. I know people complain about him about his districtness, but it is not as bad as people claim. Besides, he is a resonable person. If your sick, he understands. Higly recommended.

Ever wonder what it would be like to take a class about film that was conducted like boot camp and taught by the devil himself? If yes, then take this class. Speak only when spoken to. Do not stand up in class, or blow your nose. Be on time or be denied entrance. Very easy if you stay off his radar. Takes notes on EVERYTHING in class, or else.

Oh dear sweet LORD do NOT take this class. He is evil! He yells at you, will not tolerate anything that goes against his views, and is generally rude and unpleasant. Avoid class at all costs. He will eat you alive and laugh about it. RUN!

Yes he is anti-discussion, but the class is very easy. Just read the material (short sections everyday), the quizzes are straightforward, the exams are also easy. Very strict, but not difficult to get used to. Must attend class, but you (or your parents) are paying for it. So go to class

At first, I was going to drop because he is overly strict and mean. I'm glad I stayed. It was one of my easier classes. Read for the quizzes, go to class, and imagine he's a drill seargant and you'll probably win him over. He's very nice, and even humorous once you get to know him. Recommended.
