One of the best and most fair I've ever had at AU. His exams are straightfoward and directly from the lecture - If you go to class, and do minimal studying, you will get an A, guaranteed.

Comment:
Econ of Africa- Ayittey has an interesting view of african economics, worth listening to, but lectures are extremely repetitive. Grading is finicky, he is not explicit or consistent in what he expects (though does expect you to regurgitate his ideas). 3 non- cumulative exams, then a cumulative final. The only book used is his book.

Really nice guy, pretty funny sometimes, but he mostly just expects students to regurgitate information. Given the topic I think the class could have been a lot more interesting. It was definitely my easiest A though, if that's what you're looking for.

This man should not be teaching 100-level classes. He knows a LOT, and he's a great lecturer, but he gets frustrated when students don't understand...not that I blame him, seeing as 50% of students didn't even show up to class...caters the tests EXACTLY to what he teaches, so the final SHOULD BE a breeze (how people managed to fail, I don't know).

He was a great teacher and I learned a lot. Attending class was what made the tests really easy and he was always fun to listen to. I know have an active interest in the Africian economy thanks to him,

Great professor. I learned ALOT and the exams are easy if you simply pay attention in class and take notes. He is very passionate about what he is teaching which makes the material covered come to life. The only bad part about his teaching was when he didn't show up to class.

He was sometimes late and forgot a few classes but otherwise he was a very nice man. He always made jokes and tried to keep us interested. Sometimes hard to understand but loves what he is teaching. sometimes narrow point of view so sometimes you just have to please him. Write exactly what he says on tests and you will be fine.

Yes, class is boring and repetative -- and easy. But, he checks these ratings and writes our class angry e-mails about how its not fair for us to write bad reviews of him. He wrote: "I have spent the better part of my life fighting dictators and I donĂ¢€™t think that I would act like one in the classroom."

His lecture is not only repetitive, but factually inaccurate - Ayittey's teaching about Africa borders on academic negligence. If you want to actually learn anything about Africa and its economics don't bother taking this class.

he repeats the same lecture every class. only his ideas are correct. if you don't say exactly what he's thinking, you're wrong. his book is the only one used in the class. i wish i had not taken this class.

He is extremely clear in his lectures and will always respond when there are questions. Take notes (everything you need to know is in the lectures which he writes on the board). If you know the notes you will ace the class.

Ayittey seems like he could care less about his students. He's always late, irresponsible with returning phone calls and emails, forgets to tell students when he wont be in class/office hours... very curt. I wanted to minor/specialize in econ until taking his class. Lectures might be clear, but puts questions on tests you cant get 100 on.

I mean, I guess he's a FINE Professor. He's really knowledgable (literally wrote the book) - but he's very one sided, you HAVE to agree with him or you'll fail, he repeats the same lecture 14 times (almost word for word), and he's an incredibly ****y grader. Interesting subject matter though. The text is great.

Incredibly intelligent. I only wished we had more of a variety when it came to the books we used in class. We basically used his book and that wasnt objective enough. Its been two years since I took that class and I can remember almost everything...he's that good.
