This class was actually really easy for me - I think it depends on how much reading you actually do. Lecture IS useless so if you feel like sleeping in, go ahead - you just really need to read the book and you're set. He wastes a lot of lecture time talking about nothing, which is why I stopped going - and still got an A.

Lectures are kinda boring and he goes off on tangents all the time, but it's worth getting his "this will be on the test" notes. He's a funny guy and really nice, I read the chapters and got 100% in his class, it was cake, but you gotta read. Go on the field trip when it's warm out!

I took it because everyone said it was an easy A. It absolutely was not. I read every single chapter and studied hard for the tests and got a C. Do not take this class if you are not interested in Astronomy! He is impossible to reach to discuss grades or anything else.

People think easy As mean "no time needed." You can get an A in this course, one of three ways: go to every lecture and write it down when he says "this will be on the test," go to recitation consistently, or read the book thoroughly. Easy A. He's a funny guy, but I took the book route and went to lecture twice. The trip to the observatory sucks.

This class is useless. I took it because everyone said it was "so easy" but it's not. He doesn't teach and the tests are 20 questions on 7 chapters of material, with a very vague study guide to work with. Not worth it for a supposedly "easy" science credit!

Gatewood severly underrates the difficulty level of his class. I got an A, but put in quite a bit of effort...at least more than I initially thought I would. Attending class is futile, as he generally talks about whatever comes to mind, rarely covering relevant materials. Also his "test questions" are rather vague and can be tough to decipher.

believe it or not, you do have to study for this class. lots of people get all happy cause they aced the first test, but it does get more difficult. not really though. i didnt do much and got a A....somehow.

Gatewood is a sweet dude. You don't really have to go to class or recitation. As long as you read the book you'l be fine. I would suggest going to lectures anyway. Gatewood has alot of cool things to say about the astronomical world and just other subjects. The tests weren't hard, jus tbe sure to read everything two or three times.

didnt go to class once and i got a B...dont leave all of the reading until the few nights before an exam because it is way too much information to learn in a few days...try to spread the reading out...lecture is pointless but recitation is sometimes helpful

You don't have to attend this class. Ever. If you do go, don't rely on his lectures to provide all the information you need for tests - you MUST read the book in order to do well in this class. Material is not difficult, but the volume of it is very large. But Gatewood is very aware that this class is a Gen Ed and thankfully treats it as such.

THIS IS NOT AN EASY A! He is possibly the worst professor i've ever had. He will tell you that certain things are on the test, but they never are. It will be WEEKS before you get a grade on your multiple choice scantron tests. Don't waste your time even going to his pointless lectures, reading is the only way you will pass!

I know alot of people who blew off this class and didn't try because everyone says not too....and they FAILED IT AND HAD TO RETAKE IT! It does actually require work and reading...you don't have to go to lectures but go to recitations and read the book!

Awesome teacher! He knows the class is a gen ed requirement and teaches it accordingly. You don't need to go to class, but it helps because he often tells you the questions on the tests and the answers to them. Make sure you read the book and memorize the quiz answers
