Although he's a very nice person, he's a tough grader. It's a lot of reading and writing to be done within a quarter. I wouldn't recommend taking him if you don't have time to commit to doing the reading and writing in his class. He grades like an English professor.

Throughout my Master's program, I had 4 courses with Dr. Goerl. He made you work for your grades, but in doing so it is rewarding to earn an A. If you want to excel in his class, please be sure to take advantage of office hours!

This professor is not approachable and talks to certain students in a condescening manner. It was a waste of time/gas/fees attending his class. Useless/Unclear/Time-Wasting Assignments. We bought 5 books and told to read 2 (after the fact!) Totally Incompetent and should not be a professor at CSUEB!

Very nice, sometimes forgetful, & sometimes unclear, but for the most part willing to help you learn. Assigned 7 books for the course, all are unrelated to the lectures but if you pay attention in class, participate & ask questions you'll get an A. Always ask for examples! Don't be discouraged by resubmits, they are increasingly easier as you go.

Very nice and approachable. If you work hard, you'll get an A. He doesn't give out grades, you have to earn it. I had him in the spring and really enjoyed his class. His lectures are very informative because he's a very knowledgeable professor.

I had him for 3 classes and enjoyed both the class and his teaching style. He actually knows a lot about political science and brings that into the PUAD curriculum. These people are right that he is somewhat unclear about what he wants in the papers but in the end it all works out for the grade.

I WAS VERY CONFUSED THE ENTIRE CLASS. ALTHOUGH WE GET OPPORTUNITITES TO RE-DO THE WORK, WE ARE UNABLE TO RETAIN ANY LESSON TAUGHT BECAUSE NOTHING IS EVER EXPLAINED CLEARLY. NICE MAN....TERRIBLE TEACHER

He gives confusing instructions for assignments. After grading and returning papers you get better instructions for the re-submitted paper. The entire class spent the entire quarter re-submitting papers for a better grade. I felt so confused about the assignments I did not learn a thing. Avoid him at all cost.

Really, really terrible. He uses handouts instead of textbooks but gives out the handouts and talks about them the same day. Totally incoherent and pointless course/lesson plan. A complete *COMPLETE* waste of time, money, energy, gas, consciousness. AVOID AVOID AVOID. He should not be teaching.

This is one worst prof. I've had. He keeps emphasizing that he has been teaching over 20 years but to me, he can't teach. Very boring with his monotonic voice. He can't explain well. He doesn't know how to type up his hand outs correctly. He came short of hand-out one day and said that he will mail me the hand out because he doesn't use email.Gish!
