Dr. Hess is very helpful and extremely knowledgable in his field of expertise, electronic music. It is a shame he has to teach beginning, because he really is quite smart at upper-level theory. He undeservedly gets a bad rap.

Dr. Hess is one of the worst professors that I have ever had, and to all of you who think that people don't like him because he is failing them, think again. He is one of those teachers that think that if you don't get it then you never will; That you should come into his class already knowing everything that he is about to "teach" you. Dr Hess is brilliant, and can teach you a lot, if you are willing. His classes are fast paced and can be challenging. He has high expectations and holds you to them. He believes your education is your resposibility. If you don't learn it, it's your fault for not asking questions and getting help.

Dr. Hess sucks. And to those that think it's because he failed me...I got an A in all three classes I took from him and learned nothing. He is a terrible teacher and laughs when someone asks a question that he thinks is dumb. The only one giving him a good review is probably his dumb*ss son.

I liked him as a rule...the class was a bore. Only take it if you have to. It revolves around computers and his infatuation with jazz music. When he starts on MIDI - look out, its like he's speaking in a different language.
