Comment:
Dr. Hopkins is obviously a progressive activist. If that really bothers you.... perhaps Urban Studies and CofC in general weren't the best choices. Hopkins is very witty and extremely knowledgeable. His lectures are interesting but aid more in understanding a topics application than the topic itself. You MUST read to pass the tests.

Comment:
Hopkins is a local activist and it shows through his lectures, which he often starts with local news and issues. He is very knowledgable and you can learn a lot from him but the lectures don't really teach you the material you will be tested on. Not an easy A but he offers LOTS of extra credit. He's a great guy, interesting teaching style.

Dr Hopkins is very liberal so republicans stay clear. Starts off with current events and some jokes here and there. Gives study guides for tests but you still have to work for it. Expects you to read every night and commit the book to memory. Analytical paper is pretty tough so be prepared. Not just a memorization class, must apply info.

Dr. hopkins's classes are not easy, but you are in college, it is not supposed to be easy. You will learn more this prof than any other in CofC's history department. A truly brilliant, insightful, and kind man.

Dr. Hopkins is now an adjunct professor, meaning that he will only be teaching one class per semester. If you have the chance to take his class, do it. He knows what he's talking about and you will learn a lot. Take advantage of his course while he is still teaching. Does require decent amount of work, but he offers lots of extra credit.

expects you to read the whole textbook, "pop" quizzes almost every other class, even if you've done the reading it can be hard. tests are on at least 8 chapters at a time and are rediculous to study for. class is boring, I barely go, but still get A's on the tests.

Very funny, nice guy. Two papers that were pretty short and easy (2 pgs +) Not that much required reading, and attendance is not mandatory which is nice! If you just take notes in class, no need for a textbook. Tests are in bluebooks, mostly short answers and then essays. Basic history class- gives study guides though, which is helpful.

Great professor. Smart and funny. Grades essays kind of tough but not where you would fail if you tried. Incorporates movies/documentaries into lecture. I really enjoyed taking. I recommend him for upper-level courses.

Dr. Hopkins is a really cool guy. Every class starts out by recapping all sorts of local and national news and how it relates to class issues. It really is like watching the Colbert Report, as he throws a joke or two into everything. His notes and tests are straightforward, but he does care about detail. He is interesting and you learn a ton.

dr hopkins is a pretty cool guy, he clearly knows his stuff & this class was extremely interesting/enjoyable. he spent the first 20 min of class going over news articles & making jokes, its like watching a bit of the daily show if you will. gave study guide w/essay questions & terms to know, so if you study that you're fine!! would def recommend.

80% Movie based class which can get a little distracting with regard to notes. Class was facinating though and Hopkins is not affraid to speak about taboos and even make faux pas comments. Great knowledge of Pop culture and very aprocable. His Test Study guides are on the money and helpfull. Conspiracy Theroy Stoner is a good description of him :)

I thought this was going to be one of those "easy A" courses but I took it b/c I was interested. He surprised me in that the course was very detailed and I learned a lot. Very left, but I'm conservative and found that he could look at other views as long as you knew what you were talking about. Lots of reading and he likes details on the tests.

Not too bad--classes can be boring and you do sometimes think "yeah, I got at least a b on that test" & you get it back with a C on it. Just make sure to know the study guide.Dont really have to read the daily readings, just have some idea of what he is going to discuss.Analytical paper took me 2 hours and I made a B on it! Like I said, not too bad

his test don't seem hard until you get the grade back and it is a D when you are sure it was at least a B! Then his commit is great information just lacking a little, sure you'll do great on the exam! Not too bad, but then I think to myself ok, thanks for the commit but you just gave me a D!

Doesn't really allow for a lot of discussion. Pretty liberal. He makes the lecture pretty interesting though--has a dry sense of humour and likes making a lot of pop culture references.
