George is hard but not a bad professor. He seems a bit scary but he really is there to help and if you are struggling in his class, can find a way to help you. Also the more he sees you try, the better your grade is likely to be.

George, honestly there is so much I could say. His classes are HARD, but he really does care about his students and wants you to pass. If you show genuine interest in learning he is more than willing to help you as much as you need. Show work ethic and there is nothing he won't do to help you.

George's general chemistry classes were definitely a change from my AP chemistry classes in high school. His POGIL method where you solve problems with your group is challenging. Though frustrating at times, POGIL method forces you to think and to figure out the concepts on your own. Occasionally, George lectures to wrap up a section or a chapter.

George is an amazing person, but his class is hard. I worked extremely hard for an A and busted my butt for a B the next semester. He gives great and quick feedback, but instructions are not always clear (especially on projects). The quizzes and tests are HARD. He can be very confusing during lectures but is always willing to help IF YOU ASK.

George is an adorable little old man. Although he might scare you at first, he really cares about his students. His POGIL method, which is basically working in a group of four, can definitely be frustrating at times but I personally helped me since I would not have paid any attention or done any work if I were not forced to with the POGIL method.

Comment:
His teaching method is horrible. He expected the students to learn material on their own and it was hard to understand him during his lectures. I was not able to grasp the concepts he taught until after he gave tests and quizzes. The students in my class were not given enough chances or time to effectively learn the material.

I've taken about four or five classes with George to date. Love the man as a person, really difficult to like him as a professor. I respect his teaching philosophy and I agree that there is a "method to his madness" but sometimes it's difficult to grasp the material. In his eyes, learning is the responsibility of the student, which can be very hard

I had George my freshmen year for the non-majors chemistry class. It was not difficult. I also took his Jan Term yoga class which is a little awkward since he is an older man but it was fun and very relaxing. He's an interesting character and I hear his general chem classes are very challenging.

Very interesting class (you?ll never look at your watch during his lectures!), always helpful, answers chemistry questions thoroughly(clarity!, plus makes sure you understand them. Though his exams are hard, I improved after the first one. At the end of the semester, I felt that I knew a lot more than what I started out with!

Bipolar. Not very good at lecturing, nor very helpful as far as the POGIL method. He will offer you "constructive criticism" freely, but will not accept so much as a question about the material in return. You had better get it the first time you ask or he will take a second and third question as impertinence.

I also had him for my freshman Salem Signature course. Scared the crap out of me. We walk into class and he says..."My name is George, do not call me Dr. McNight b/c I will not respond..." Scary, but very cool. And I am cery sorry for mooning you....why were you on campus at 10pm when we were headed to Wake anyway?

George is a great guy just VERY hard. But he has a very big heart. I think he thinks we are all genius' and that the understanding will come through osmosis. He is really smart I think that's why he is really doesn't that we don't get it.

Really hard, ill tempered, outside of class he is a very nice guy though. One of those professors that you have to know and understand to appreciate. Just take a deep breath and you'll be fine! :)
