This professor really does know his stuff. I never saw him dodge a question, as he answered with detail and confidence. His lectures, however, can be boring and do not teach coding directly but the idea of what he is trying to teach. He is funny. If you are struggling to learn CS you may want to find a more hands-on professor or ask him questions.

HE is a good person but as a professor he barely taught the things that were on the exam. His slides are more of a review for himself rather than students. Many links to outside sources to read is found on his site which we must do. Took this class thinking I learn to make games but he used an engine that was discontinued years ago. Disappointed!

The toughest thing about this class is the project that spans throughout the semester. Do not procrastinate with this class or your grade will suffer. The tests are not hard, but they will make you think.

If you are expecting him to hold your hand, then drop out -- it's a SENIOR level class for a reason. One big project the entire semester that builds onto itself using C/C++. I had no idea what I was doing the entire time. I would cry myself to bed on regular basis; the exams were not that easy either. Also, make sure you understand linear algebra!

This isn't a walk in the park.. you will have to do a decent amount of work on the usual 3 projects, but they are very do-able. Class is a lecture based off slides. Overall pretty laid back. Awesome person and teacher. Highly recommend.

Cool guy, class is a little bit hard considering you will be using C++, the project was making a 3d space game, this was interesting, but as long as you try you should be able to pass.

Excellent professor, very kind and genuinely cares about his students. His tests are not difficult, so long as you study his lecture slides and his study guides that he posts generally 1 week before the exam is to be taken. Barnes always makes sure to put multiple essay questions so you can choose which one you want to answer. Overall great person.

Best prof I've had. Teaches you about all angles of CompSci in 1 semester. Great explanations of concepts made coursework easy to understand. Biggest, hardest coding HW I've had, but it was fun, game-like. He loves teaching, wants you to learn and understand, but no freebies. Decent grader. Learned the most about actually programming in his class.

Prof. Barnes is very easy going. We had 1 midterm, 1 group project, and 1 final. That's it! He gives reviews on the midterm and final which are very helpful on the tests. Read some of the book and the ppt lectures. Group project isn't hard but pick a good topic on HCI and get started on it asap. Take his class if you can before he retires!

Interesting class. Professor Barnes is helpful and tries to explain data structures' concepts in an easy language and understandable manner. Make sure you get the book as many exam questions are really close to exercises from it.

Very nice and helpful. His lectures are a bit dry sometimes. His tests are...I don't know how to describe it, they are easy but make sure you study alot because if you don't you will have no idea what the questions are asking and you will fail. Make sure to go over the lecture slides because that is primarily what he tests on.

A very nice and amiable teacher. Although he's deaf in one ear, he still tries to make a point to hear you. He likes to get to know everyone's names and be more personal which is great when you want one-on-one help either during the lab or outside of class. He explains things very well and his mid term/final is not too hard.

Great professor for this topic. Midterms and final was straight forward. Projects can be difficult to understand if you don't pay attention and ask questions. 3 projects, 1 midterm, 1 final. Attendance isn't mandatory but is recommended. Overall great professor.

Great Professor, bit whacky at times. His lectures were pretty hard to follow because they jumped around. The projects were a blast. Involved a GUI based simulation environment. Most of the class didn't finish, but as long as you don't leave his projects for the last minute, they were a lot of fun and great example to learn his material.

Great professor. 3 Projects, 1 Midterm, and 1 Final. Projects are not too difficult if you don't wait till the last minute to do the projects. If you have trouble on projects visit him during office hours. Lectures are somewhat boring. Study his study guide and practice quizs for the midterm and final and you'll do fine in his class.

He didn't really try to teach the class. His lectures were mostly him reading off his slides. He rarely gave good examples. He showed very little interest in the topics covered. He's a great prof but I didn't like him for this class.

Awesome professor! He really knows his stuff and provides great help in lab when you require it. He puts the lecture notes online so you don't have to come to every class session. He's a pretty easy grader when it comes to both the tests and the semester project. As long as you make an attempt to understand the material, you'll pass.
